	Analysis on potential foreign policy threat(s). Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

After conducting several "simulation games" (Personal games played as the Hive the current opposing factions and similar condition to the D Game) I have identified one major foreign policy issue that will eventually need to be addressed.

"The Axis of Science"

This is a potential Pact between the Uni, CyCon, and Angels. This could prove to be a very effective pact and a potentially powerful one. Each Faction in the pact would be able to conduct a different field of research then share tech, so they could potentially share tech three times faster then normal!

The Solutions:

1: Either become friendly with Uni or CyCon, so that we would not lag behind.
2: Engage in strong diplomacy with the angels, possibly by ending our Police State for a short time for they don't immediately hate us (this is undesirable)
3: Extensive Probe Team actions.
4: Stronger ties with the Pirates (the Free Drones would not be good tech partners at all)
5: Desperate Expansionist policy to create huge energy income
6: War!

I suggest discussion be opened on this now to prepare ourselves.

We should make friends with the Cycon and war on the Uni - never ending vendetta against the Uni would be good

I think we should try really hard to "get in bed" with the Cycon (even though they find reproduction akward ), I think they're a better science team than the university - Unless the Uni gets the Virtual World they will have heaps of drone problems which would be detrimental to their aquisition of knowledge, and the Cycon has +2 efficiency that the University doesn't.

However, if the Cycon decide they don't like us, we should definitely try to get friendly with the University. For reasons unknown I seem to think that the Cycon will be powerful and not too friendly towards us, but we'll just have to see.

I don't care if the Data Angels don't like our politics, if we don't have a Police State now we'll have one later on anyway and they'll have a cry at us then. We shouldn't weaken ourselves now to satisfy one faction who may not like us or be of any use to us anyway.

I wouldn't mind seeing an aggressive expansion take place. If we run into an AI faction maybe we could take "integrate them" (destroy them) before other human factions discover them.

I think that for personal reasons the CYCon will be our friends. There's also a lot of "aminosity" between the Uni and the CyCon that goes back to the first ACDG.

Mostly because Archaic and GT really pissed off Drogue, Maniac and Cedayon. Particularly over Drogue's determination to allow NO boreholes at any of his bases, and Archaic being a ****. Oh, and genejack factories.....

Ahhhhh, Comrade Jamski has provided us with very valuable information!

I think we shouldn't ignore the Drone's. Simply for the fact that their industrial might, along with our own, can rule Planet by military might alone. If what Comrade Jamski has said still applies, we should DEFINITELY court the CyCon and just put on a "smiley face" for the PUT so they aren't aware of what's going on.

But, the CyCon and PUT could have a covert deal going on as we speak.


I personally think we'd be better off cementing a Pact with the CyCon and a Treaty with the Free Drone's.

(btw, I thought we weren't going to talk about interfaction relations until we meet up with at least one? )

I forgot about them! I haven't played SMAX that often so I don't know too much concerning them.

I think we should really open up relations with the Free Drones....but we should have the Commissioner of Foreign Relations Comrade Haon give his opinion on this matter.

I agree with Jam and Gnool. We should get in bed with the Cycon's. Offer them protection in return for science (in other words we won't destory you as long as you are useful to us). As long as we do get research from the CyCons and can keep pace with the University, then we are in no immediate rush to take them out. (however, once again, their drone problem, their problems defending against probe teams, and the usual tendancy to be lax with the military will make them a temping target, *happy thoughts*). The key to all of it? Make sure we have a big ass Army. In regards to the Pirates, good relations with them NEEDS to be a priority. Their naval strength gives them the ability to land troops on our shores at any point and at any time, so even if we are fighting someone on the same continent they could bypass our line and attack our vital centres (The Hive being right on the coast). Not to mention if we were fighting the Uni on another continent... constatly having to defend supply lines over an ocean is teadious at best, impossible when you don't rule the seas. Our troops would get stranded and overran. We need to have them at LEAST impartial, but what would be best is if they could defend our behind for us...

Good thoughts so far!

1. CyCon is a valuable friend to get techs from
2. Pirates would kick our asses if they wanted to
3. The University is our prime target as they´re weak and as they are ruled by Archaic (Yes, I have been there, too... )
4. The Drones might be underestimated by our intelligence... They were not chosen without thought...

I really think that if we Pact with the Drones, we could rule Planet. Our combined industrial might would be second to none and would outnumber the other factions hands down.

It looks like we are all in consensus that we should try make nice-nice with the CyCon and consider the University as a threat. Pirates are intimidating, this is a no brainer.

What I'm wondering is what the other factions think about us? Granted, we may want to court the CyCons, but what do you think their take on us is?

I also favor the idea of courting the Cycons. I like the members there. (probably a bad reason to just like the team blindly, but they might feel the same way )

The other factions will be distrustful of us given the negative press the Hive gets. They'll always assume the worst about us, and it's always true.

We need to change this, we need to go on an all out diplomatic offencive toward the Consciousness, Pirates, and Drones. I see no reap point in attempting to do such a thing with the University, for the will not listen. They need to understand that the University is the greatest threat on Planet, and that we need to unite together in order to stop them.

Our ultimate goal should be a combined coalition invasion of University territory, before they can get Planet Busters. After the dist settles we will hold all the cards since with the University gone, and our military buildup from the war against them, we can easily trample over our former allies. If Planet Busters are developed in the mean time, then we have ourselves a Cold War, which is something we might want to avoid (unless we can strike first to the point of destroying the enemies retaliatory capabilities).

I completely agree with our Glorious Comrade Chairman. Making the University seem like the big bad guy will not be hard. They are the most powerful (according to the graph). It is natural for smaller states to ally against the larger to protect themselves; it's called balance-of-power politics. This system was most favoured back in the 17th and 18th century's when a formal international system did not exist like today, and also very akin to our little situation. In other words we should focus on the fact that the university is the largest threat and play on the other faction's fears, get them to realise that collective security is the best way (I believe PRAVDA is the best method of this, no?). As for planet busters.... if the Ministry of Industry can build me enough, I have methods of finding out where the other factions keep theirs; we CAN minimize the retaliation. (the BEST solution is for industry to produce enough missiles to take out ALL of the enemy cities... but that is just me dreaming). In terms of our stockpiles, the best way to deploy planet busters is on carriers protected by massive amounts of cruisers. That way even if we are attacked it will not decrease our retaliatory strength. For this strategy to work we need to be buddies with the pirates (another common theme)... or have a massively larger navy (once again dreaming). Also, before a strike, it would be wise to move our capital out of our primary industrial districts to somewhere remote and unseen, temporarily of course.

We have the advantage that everyone hates Archaic, including his own team, (this is the guy that lost a poll to Xenobanan when he was the only candidate) It shouldn't be toooo hard to get an anti-uni coalition going
