CFC's Iron Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

CFC claims a GCA Warrior sits on their Iron:

quote:
ZargonX> well, that's not always a bad thing, right?
Octavian_X> It can get bad at some times... GCA isn't a pleasent neighbor
ZargonX> sorry to hear that
ZargonX> always throwing things on your lawn, eh?
ZargonX>
Octavian_X> hehe
Octavian_X> They threw a warrior on our iron...
ZargonX> well now, that's just rude :P
ZargonX> things are getting a little tight down that way, are they?
Octavian_X> It's not a very happy marriage, I'll say that

Question: is there really a GCA Warrior on their Iron, or are they just antagonizing GCA and Poly?

(if we had a trade route, we could check how many Iron they have hooked up...)

Put an end to popups!

First step would be to get their world map and a harbor. Then we could figure it out. In, oh, say, 30 turns.

With their map, we'd at least know if they have only one Iron, which GCA could have blocked.

I seriously doubt that CFC will let us have their map, as they don't want us to know that they have contact with anyone else.

Well, I plan on pushing CFC to get a map trade. In way, the chokepoint blocks help our case, as we have strategic info on the other side that they haven't seen yet. If they refuse to trade their own map in order to get that, then yes, they probably have a secret contact.

Out of curosity, why would them telling us that GCA is on _their_ iron cause tension between us and GCA? I mean I can see where it might make us wonder if CDG/GCA are working on concert, but I think you're giving CFC too much credit there. I mean if I was on their team and wasn't privy to all the inside knowledge of whats happened to our team since day 1, I wouldn't expect poly to give a flip about CFC's iron or relations to GCA. If anything, i'd expect them to say good then they aren't gonna be bothering us for a while. Which is kind of what I think anyways actually :P

Another scenario which just ocurred to me which seems possible but not highly likely is that war is imminment between cfc/gca and cfc (knowing we can't verify their claims) is trying to convince us that GCA is really the aggressor when they declare war. I doubt thats the case though, its more likely they are actually just telling the truth IMO.

Well, CDG was sitting on our iron (and we would have done the same to them ;P) so it's not too surprising.

Placing a Warrior somewhere with no other intention than to block someone's resources can be viewed as a hostile act. I do, anyway. If CFC shares this view, and they tell us about it, they might speculate that we might think of GCA as an aggressive civ.

When war comes between CFC and GCA, we would then be more likely to choose CFC's side.

Just a theory, though.

If the time comes when GCA remains on the Iron after CFC has encompassed it with it border's, then they have a situation, likely war. But until then, it is only posturing by GCA, nothing more. It may piss CFC off, like it did us when CDG did it, but thems the rules of the game.

Agreed with BF. CFC may be trying to get us to declare on the pretext that we would be allied, when either we would be nothing of the sort, or they may be less vulnerable by troops than we are. Remember we regard them as strong rivals as the other main Civ site. They likely regard us in the same way, and would do all they can to get rid of us early on, in as indirect a way as they could.

We must delay any possible alliance until we see military action at the earliest. maybe not even then.

Things are looking interesting, but so far the only thing that has happened is the Warrior move onto Iron that is not yet used. That has happened to us before. All the talk is cheap until something more actually happens.

Personally, I don't think we should ally with CFC even if they are attacked by both CDG & GCA. Intead, I think we should count our blessings that a) its them and not us, b) they are getting weakened and thus aren't serious competition, and c) capitalize on it by moving on CDG as soon as the bulk of their offensive forces cross into CFC land.

wervdon - if CDG/GCA do attack CFC then that is what we would do anyway. If we managed to garner some goodwill for the future by allying with CFC, then we may as well. In order to do so and still have CDG make themselves vulnerable (if they were that stupid), we would have to get CFC to agree that we wouldn't come into the war until CDG has moved their troops so we could strike their heart.

CFC could see this two ways:

1. They want us to ally and publically state it before any troop movements to try and prevent a war in that CDG and GCA would have two opponents to face, not one, and in the hope they reconsidered in light of this new fact.

2. They won't mind us keeping our hand hidden until CDG does something stupid as we are more likely to land a crippling blow and take CDG (and probably) GCA out of the war. Any losses CFC would have had early on could be reversed and then we could help them add to what they had to being with, making the deal better than it might first seem.

OTOH, with Riders, there could be something said for ending CFC early (pre-Chivalry!). Moreover, with CDG having their UU already, we have nothing to lose by letting them hang around a bit in the GA stakes. Also, although a peaceful type neighbour (CFC) seems better to have around for longer, they are good strategists and are likely to be a bigger overall threat through the whole game. CDG has shown themselves to be less than perfectly rational, and although that can be a danger at times, it is far less potentially nasty than a highly intelligent opponent like CFC.

This would be a tricky decision. I only hope something happens soon to give us more of a clue whether we will need to make this decision or not...

We are going to attack CDG either way, but as far as I knew we weren't really planning anything against GCA, and since it looks like GCA is the threat to CFC..... I mean do we really want to get into it with GCA (who we have at least decent relations with) on CFC's behalf? If both attack, then maybe cfc would take an alliance against only CDG, but if CDG/GCA are allied against CFC it might end up being the same thing. Ideally, I think we'd want to let CFC take the brunt of CDG's offensive abilities, then attack CDG while GCA/CFC duke it out for the west/south of the continent. A war with GCA pre-CDG extinction couldn't help us really.....

I now and will for a long time maintain the stance that should war come between CDG and CFC, almost nothing will happen. I don't see either side sending large armies off 40 tiles from home to beat up on an enemy which they can't even see. Would we go off and send an army to fight CFC if we somehow ended up at war with them? Honestly, if I was still MOW I would just ignore them. Too far away, we don't want to weaken our presence here where things really matter, and we have nothing to gain.

I don't think CDG is that anxious to find someone to use their Immortals on.

But they may be. The second part of a UU that makes it special is that it is a better unit than those your opponents have. The time for Immortals to dominate is short, but that time includes NOW. I wouldn't be all that surprised if CDG wanted a war so they could make the most use of their Immortals, cause other civs to slow down their tech advance so the Immortals are on top for longer and to use the GA to builld enough of them to take a lot of better land. However stupid or erratic they are, they must know the land they have is pants, and they need better land soon. The only real way for them to do that is with war, in which Immortals are currently giving them a leap over all of their neighbours.

IMHO, if GCA is to wage war against CFC, it will join forces with CDG. Reason :

1. GCA, despite of its size, it may not have the military might to conquer CFC alone
2. It is dangerous for GCA to go on an all-out War alone when CDG immortals are sitting at its backyard
3. Both CDG and GCA stand to gain by joining forces. They have better chances of beating CFC, they do not have to cross each other's border, and they can share the conquered land equitably.

What does this mean to us ?

1. We should establish warm relationship with CFC, and we tell them clearly that we cannot whack GCA because we share no common border. (this is already done). However, we should let them know that : When GCA join forces with CDG, and CDG strikes CFC, we will hit CDG hard. (debatable, shall we put it in writing ?)

2. We should station a Warrior between CDG cities Shaharazade and Elucidium to observe any significant troop movement. If the troops are going towards Shaharazade, we should report to CFC and at the same time start consolidating our troops close to Elucidium but out of their sight.

3. At the same time, we should stay vigilent. You never know, GCA and CDG may join forces against us instead of CFC. They control the 2 choke points, so nobody can come to our rescue should they fight us insead !

So, are we ready to stand a joint CDG and GCA strike ? I hope the MOW has considered this thoroughly.

I think it would be better to use any conflict to our advantage; staying neutral will not give us any. It'd be better to choose sides probably.
