	Problem Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

For some reason whenever I load my Civilization III game the whole screen turns black. And the only thing that you can see are the words but you can see the background and you cant start a game or anything. Any ideas what it is?

And if you do Ctrl-Escape once your running civ3 and you click on the Civilization3 Icon on the taskbar... does it fix your problem?

On wich Operating system are you?

Maybe if you desinstall it will fix your problem...

Do the game just freeze or he continue running? And you'r not able to click everywhere on the screen?

I have a Macintosh. It doesnt freeze unless I try to start a game.

Check with Firaxis, it may be a known issue. Did you apply any patches? Did you install PTW as well?
IF you down loaded patches, you may have the wrong version. I think the latest one was not available for Macs.

I didnt install PTW. And I loaded the newest patch for the mac.

Make sure you didn't load a PTW patch. Sorry, without knowing anything about mac's, I don't think I can really offer any help.

Well I saw something about PTW on my files so I deleted it. No change... And now I can even install it. Which I think was the beginning problem. It never installed fully so it never could load the rest of the game. Just my thoughts....

Hmm, although I have a PC I had a very similar problem. The game would lock on the intro screen.

Reinstalling it fixed it for play ONCE - then it would freeze again.

Scratching my head, I reinstalled a fresh OS (lucky I had a spare hard drive) and that fixed everything.

I THINK it was the amount of worms, parasites, spyware and adware that infested my old hard disk, but I couldn't say for sure.

The problem with Macs though is that they give updates to the computer. So if I re-loaded my OS most of my stuff would be gone and I would be down graded to a OS 8 and I have a OS 9.

That's what CD-burners are for! I would have been totall stuffed without one.

Mind you, I am never happy without an original system install disks. Even in the far off days of CPM I was like that.

Cruddy: I dont see how a CD Burner will fix my problem. I would still have to deal with a Mac 8.

Skywalker: I have and it doesnt even install fully. And I did say I didnt install the PTW patch.

you meant the City Screen turns black or the whole game?
i've seen this problem before with myself ... i can't see the city screen .. i can see just some letters and a white line
