The Tale of the Years 1300 BC to 950 BC Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

THE TALE OF THE YEARS 950 BC

We have many units exploring for huts and enemy cities, so I won’t mention those each turn…

1300 BC – Popped hut, 25G. Popped hut, Legion (Glorificus). Changed Enron production to Phalanx, rushed (13G).

1250 BC – Barb Horse appears and attacks Dominion and dies. Our Phalanx becomes Vet. Enron builds Phalanx, starts Barracks. Popped hut, 25G.

1200 BC – Popped hut, NONE Horse. Popped hut, Chariot (Glorificus). Popped hut, Chariot (Majestica). Popped hut (with Explorer), Barb Horse.

1150 BC – Barb Horse kills Explorer. Offer to trade knowledge with Japanese. They refuse and dismiss us. Try Greeks. They offer peace and I accept to maybe get better treatment. Offer to trade knowledge with Greeks, they refuse, too, but don’t dismiss us. I demand tribute, which is refused. Rush Pax Settler (50G) to avoid disorder (new citizen).

1100 BC – Americans start Hanging Gardens. Archer attacked by Greek Legion and is killed! Pax builds Settler. Popped hut, 50G.

1050 BC – Popped hut, 25G. Popped hut, CURRENCY! At least huts will give us tech sometimes…

1000 BC – Popped hut, Legion (Majestica). Popped hut, NONE Legion.

975 BC – Popped hut, LITERACY! Offer to trade knowledge with Japanese. They refuse again, so I demand tribute. They declare War!

950 BC – Japanese Settler appears next to Enron! Popped hut, REPUBLIC! Popped hut, Legion (Glorificus). Popped hut, CONSTRUCTION! Horse discovers Kyoto!

We are about to complete the Great Imperialis-Majestica Highway, which will vastly improve trade, troop and citizen movement, and begin to connect the Capital to the surrounding cities! ride:

Seemed like a good place to stop. Very frustrating session. Still no Polytheism discovery, and since we are 1st in approval, probably no one has Monarchy to trade to us anyway.

The game file has been emailed to the Ministers, may their polls and wisdom guide us in these difficult, despotic times!

We have not been able to find, research, or trade for either Polytheism or Monarchy yet. We are obviously facing a hostile conspiracy of silence and trickery. However, we certainly have rooms full of knowledge that will be useful to us once we do obtain the secret of "Monarchy", whatever that unknown but potent idea is.

We have explored much of the world. Surely, no other civilization can be doing half so well as we at *that*. We are also regarded with fear of our might military forces, and we are beginning to knit our far-flung cities into a system of roads for improved travel and trade.

The Japanese and the Greeks have both treacherously declared war on us at the mere (and fully justified) request for a few trinkets of tribute (err, "expenses") for our patience. They will pay far more than first requested for their arrogance someday!

We have met some wandering fighting units that agreed to join us in our quest to conquer this world. Those who have not already allied with a city of ours ("NONE" at all) are being sent to nearby cities for education and training. They will be defending the cities at no expense to us. One hardy band of settlers as agreed to travel to our heartland and assist with road-building. Our various exploring units often send shipments of gold back to the Imperiality.

maybe we should skip monarchy and go for Republic at once...I know this will be a disaster shieldwise...

otherwise...no monarchy and already 2 races who want to kill us...joy
I really start to mistrust this game...what the hell is wrong?

Shade - I'm pretty sure that if we went Republic, we would fall into immediate and continued anarachy. We have too many total military units, too many out of the cities, and too many units would be disbanded for lack of shield support.

why couldn't the hut give us any other government?...all except republic and democracy would be a great improvement...actually even demo would have a plus --> SoL --> pick best choice

I'm just getting kinda desperate because we just don't seem to be capable to get to Monarchy

Well let us for the God's of Civ and hope they grant us monarchy so we can and the heads of our enemies.

We have 3 Settlers, do we not?

Add two to our size 3 city and Xin it. Build a library there, too. That should help our science rate... and we might not want to open any more huts for a little while

I understand how you feel. It is very frustrating. But you should imagine how it was to actually *play* the last session. Every time I moved a unit to pop a hut, there was the moment of hope, dashed by the failure to get Monarchy. It became so bad that I was closing my eyes for a moment to delay seeing the "25 gold" message. Not that money is bad, but it wasn't what I wanted to see.

I've never seen a game where Monarchy was so hard to get!

This is a worthwhile idea to seriously consider, though I will point out that one Settler is a nomad group far away from any city, and that the others are building roads in gold-grass squares we are already working and those add to our trade.

A specific science/trade city might not be a bad idea, though, even if we can't use it for caravans.

While a size 5 city for science sounds good, I think the cost of 2 settlers is too high a price to pay. If we can grow a city with normal growth (filling the food box) to size 5, then I say go for it, but I don't think this is a good use of settlers. Perhaps they could irrigate if this would help the city to grow faster (depending on the city that is, water seems to be a premium on this map!) As I stated on another thread, I am confident that we will very soon have monarchy, and at that point, we will be much better off. Much of the strategy posted is with the attempt to get to Monarchy, I prefer to think of strategy of once we get there (very soon I think) and once we get to Monarchy, we are going to want to use those settlers to found new cities.

Sparrowhawk once again offers his opinion, feel free to take it for what it's worth (less then a warrior, more then a caravan in this game)

The Foriegn Ministry requests that a diplomat be constructed soon for deployment in Greece where he can start an embassy. Of course, we need to find a Greek city first, but it will take some time for the dip to get there first, so I reccomend begining now
