In reaction to your first post, it seems you are reacting to extreme left (or rather extreme liberalism) because you hanged out with close-minded liberal people. Close-mindeness isn't exclusively a feat of the 'other side', unlike what lefties and righties often enjoy to think. Actually, you'll find it equally spread in all the political spectrum, except at the extremes where people are much more close-minded than anywhere else.
You should ignore those people who cannot understand that you don't like Noam Chomski (isn't he the guy who thinks Jews are behind Sept 11 anyway ?  ) or that you like Nixon.
But you shouldn't ignore the ideology they pretend to belong to. Rather, you should do the opposite of them, and looking for the good things the 'liberals' are doing, even if your liberal friends defend it poorly.
I don't know about your examples as they are very American, but I'd say that
- the vegetable-car guy may have a good idea to reduce atmospheric pollution, i.e the most immediate challenge for the future of our environment. Let's just think if his way is efficient or not, rather than ridiculing or laudating him
- ignore the likes of Franken (no idea of who he is actually), and watching O'Reilly will be enough to see he is full of **** anyway.
- Do you have to be a conservative to consider Bill Clinton as a lying scumbag ? If then, I am a big conservative 
- I think it is a proof of you being reflexive to say that Moore lies in his works. It is the same as saying Limbaugh lies in his show. Both are using old techniques of propaganda for their side. If only the conservatives can criticize Moore, then the conservatives must be fecked up big time, because by this logic, only liberals can criticize Limbaugh 
- I have no idea on how the Liberals have ruined America's education system, but it sure needs change. I'd advise to look at suggested changes no matter where they come from, with a critical view. Not like saying "it is liberal, it must suck" or "it is conservative, it must rock" (too many partisans are doing it)
- Did anybody here (and we have a few of the extreme left here as well) defend the veiled woman and her driver licence's photo ? Liberalism or leftism isn't about tolerating everything.
- I thought the "Government is gonna get you" was a conservative propaganda, because I thought most Republican voters wanted to have the big government out of their backs. I don't think it is liberal to criticize the current administration's doings when it comes to freedom, especially in the light of the Patriot Act. Most conservatives here will tell it is a horrible piece of paper, along with the liberals.
As a conclusion, don't BE liberal, or don't BE conservative. I'd advise you to have the values you want, and to judge things individually according to these values. The liberals are sometimes better than the conservatives, and vice-versa. Please don't become close-minded like the people who disgusted you of liberalism.

I don't know anything about it. There are no Indian reservations in Missouri that I am aware of, so I have no concerns regarding the issue. I am completely descended from fairly recent immigrants, who stole no land from the Indians and placed no one on reservations, so I don't think of it as my problem. I feel for these people about their plight, but it simply isn't my problem.

I congratulate you on you excellent school system, but I think you may be out of touch with the actual reality for most American school children.

interestingly (or perhaps, not very  ) i was fairly left wing when i was younger, but have gotten a lot more conservative recently.
i think it's partly because i come from a working class family, since labour have come to power we have seen higher taxes, with nothing to show for it. the classes in my younger sisters' schools are the same size as mine were, you still wait a bloody age in A&E and yet we pay a lot more for the privilage. i suppose it's also partly because i live in the countryside now, and it's quite shocking to see how much the left hates us, the fox hunting issue and ever increasing petrol prices being prime examples. uni has also been a big factor, as iain will tell you, student organisations are almost without exception hard left, there is something that leaves a sour taste in the mouth about an organisation which is supposed to represent the student body going around swansea shouting about defending traitor MP george galloway or 'war crimes' in iraq (and, of course, not saying anything critical about the brutal regime that we removed...).

I'm tired of constant whining and protesting. Just because you have free speech it doesn't mean I want to hear you. 
I'd like to thank everyone for their input, both pro and con.
