	How accurate is the AsusProbe Got spare money?

Hey,

I just bought a new motherboard and it has the asusprobe utility that monitors cpu temp etc.

Now, I am wondering if any of you out there know how accurate this reading is?

They're from sensors on the motherboard, so they're generally as accurate as you're going to get.

I read on the extereme tech forums that the sensor reading can be a few degrees below because at the cpu die it is hotter than where the sensor actually is.

Just wondering if anyone here had any thoughts.

also, anyone know of the safe temp range for an athlon xp2200+?

I remember reading that the onboard sensors are accurate to only +- 10 degrees C. Better than nothing, of course, but still not exactly perfect.

It's reasonable don't go over 65 > my processor without cooler.

My processor had 33 degrees in 32 degree summer. > Hand made air cooler

I read somewhere that there can be up to 20°C difference between the temperature reported in the BIOS and that reported by AsusProbe, and that it can be fixed by upgrading to the current version (2.20.07). I'm not convinced about the accuracy of the twenty degrees bit, but it shouldn't hurt to upgrade the utility.

Erm... I'm reasonably confident that just about all temp sensor hardware is accurate to about 10 degress CELSIUS - not Fahrenheit. I could well be wrong on this, but there's a lot of variation due to the lack of calibration in the thermal diodes used (and other bits of the circuitry).

It's easy to see why techies go out and buy temperatuer sensors to calibrate what's on the board.

The rest of us just cool all we can and keep our fingers crossed.

Yeah, I meant the difference between what the BIOS reported and what AsusProbe reported after bootup. It's just something I read somewhere, and it could be wrong just as easily as otherwise.
