imagine that, the scientists is a Brit. They sure can be depressive can't they?

In any case he says there can be numerous ways an apocalypse happens. Some seem pretty far out. Supercolliders? While I don't know much about them aside from what I read in Discover magazine, I'm sure the scientists have done their calculations and figured that they won't vaporize matter or anything like that

But I often do wonder about how fast science is progressing. Especially in the biomedical field. Could they inadvertantly cause the apocalypse.

So what is your theory on how the earth will end for mankind (the earth will continue on as usual of course, at least until the sun envelopes it)?

I'll stick with the Asteroid thoery, it'll happen eventually. Although technology may find a solution to that, but currently we lack the technology to do anything to prevent an asteroid from hitting earth. A volcano may be nearly as high, as they seem to get lower priority. Not as many people study volcanos, as they do space.

I think that he has been generous, our own nature is self-destruction, sooo... Maybe for nexy 100 years it is 50:50... for a longer period somebody with too much knowledge is bound to go mad, and take most of us, or all of us with him...

There are two separate issues here. One is can something wipe out homo sapiens . The other is how this planet will end.

The latest theory is that humans nearly went under not too long ago.

To take us out now would probably have to be a coincidence of several catastrophies - volcano/asteroid/disease etc.

Given half a billion years or so the continents will possibly be back into a Pangaea formation - the situation that coincided with the Permian mass extinction, the largest wipeout in the history of the planet. That will be an interesting hurdle to get over for someone.

The question is really whether we find a practical and sustainable way off this planet to inhabit others before our number comes up here on planet Earth. I am not sure I would bet on that.

There are times I hope for an apocalypse.

There is something seriously wrong with human beings.

How can human beings be so violent? Surely this level of violence upon other humans was not necessary for evolution to survive.

If there is a god, he ****ed up somewhere in creating man.
