I just find it arrogant thiat two men loving each other sexually is ok, while incest is arbitrarily perverted

(I WANT TO MARRY MY COUSIN)

So, you tell me: Outside of the possible genetic deformities in pregnancy, what's wrong with incest? Also try to avoid circular reasoning (i.e. "it's wrong because it's wrong"). How do those equate to the status of homosexuality vis-a-vis marriage, since you seem to like comparing them. Are homosexual relationships no different than incestual ones?

Until about 100 years ago, marrying one's cousin was considered acceptable and was, indeed, a common practice. What changed that makes it wrong now? Does that somehow apply to homosexuals?

Homosexuality is a sexual orientation (whether biological or environmental in origin, it is not chosen). Is there an "incestual" orientation? If someone can't marry his cousin, does that mean he can't marry anyone else whom he might be attracted to physically and emotionally who isn't his relative?

Nothings wrong with incest. It's just a taboo. Sure you may make crappy kids that way. but homoxesuals won't make kids either. Nor will couples where the woman is past menopause. We need to get rid of the concept of marriage. It is passe.

Those questions most likely point out your inability to notice that I would indeed like to marry my wonderful cousin if we eventually fell in love (but am not allowed). Along those lines, and from what I can tell - incest is as well a sexual orientation if you are physically and emotionally attracted to a relative

One can have the orientations of heterosexuality, homosexuality, incest, pedophilia, and beastiality all at once - it's just up to each perception to so create, and each individual to socially accept or deny the validity of the concept. I think *we* can all disagree on recognizing pedophilia and beatiality as moral or socially acceptable (on subjective terms, nonetheless - anyone want to play fraudulant semantics?). I have a hard time with gay marriages as the invasion of a foreign institution, but do accept homosexuality - slipping often at my own admitted faults and fears. Yet thus far, several homosexual posters have seperately dismissed incest as "a red herring", ammunition worthy to "crap on [...] people", "repugnant", and another I can't recall.

Depends on the nature of the incest. Between cousins? No, nothing really wrong. But closer to that, things get dicey.

First of all, parent/offspring incest involves a power dynamic that can't be ignored. Considering the kind of influence a parent can wield over their offspring, even when said offspring is an adult, such relationships are going to be bad, bad news. It is an abuse of authority, in my opinion. This would also apply to aunts/uncles with their nieces/nephews, grandparents (eew!), and the like.

To a lesser extent, the same is true of sibling couplings. Most siblings I know have a power dynamic as well, and the older sibling tend to be able to manipulate the younger ones. The greater the age difference, the more true this is. Most people tend to go through periods of being in awe of their older siblings. Again, I think this is a bad thing.

Oh, and if those upstanding chaps from "The Importance of Being Ernest" can marry their cousins... it MUST be ok!

Well, I gather at least one of the couples weren't actually cousins... but society still accepted the presented reality. Same thing!!!

Although that is surprising, I don't much care of the Bible's thoughts on this matter. I care of yours - and even you seem patronizing in accepting my proposed way of life

How so? Didn't I explicitly say I didn't find anything wrong with cousins having a relationship?

Nothing wrong with a little power dynamic. Lots of husbands and wifes have this. Heck, what if one part of the gay couple is a total bottom?

But anyway as long as it is consensual adults, who cares about the "dynamic"? We all make our own choices. It's a free country.

Another step forward, but Cauchon still looks like he's in favour of stall-kill.

House committee favours same-sex unions

Last Updated Thu, 12 Jun 2003 23:13:53
OTTAWA - Ottawa should not fight Ontario's court ruling on same-sex marriages, said the House of Commons standing committee on justice and human rights on Thursday.

The committee voted 9-8 in favour of NDP MP Svend Robinson's motion asking the federal government to accept the Ontario court decision, which declared traditional marriage laws unconstitutional.

Committee chair, New Brunswick MP Andy Scott, cast the deciding vote, breaking a tie after four other Liberals voted against the motion.

The Liberal government doesn't have to accept the committee's motion but the close vote indicates that Ottawa may be less hesitant than in the past to accept gay marriages.

Justice Minister Martin Cauchon responded to the vote by saying he still needs more time to weigh the legal options and consult with cabinet members.

"We have a cabinet retreat next week. I really want to take the time to talk to my colleagues," Cauchon said.

Not that it matters in Alberta, since Klein's threatening to revoke the notwithstanding clause the second gay marriages become legal nationally.

Yeah, Klein's got to play to the rednecks.

Bill Smith just got in a bit of hot water from some 'concerned citizens' because he declared Gay Pride Week... And the kicker is, he did it reluctantly, because he said he had 'no choice'! Way to alienate both sides, Bill!
