Since this thread has gotten off-topic...

No, Uber, it isn't wrong in the slightest to feel as you do. We all have to try to make sense of it all, and find the proper balance between reality and idealism.

I'm a moderate, always looking to meld the strengths from both sides of the aisle into something stronger, but I have to take a lot of crap from the left and right (my wife and most of my friends are liberals, my Mom's a Republican, etc.) for sitting on the fence, not seeing the wisdom of their ideology, whatever. Thankfully, I love them, or else I'd have to kill them.

My problem is that a leftist will hold up their ideals, and call them Truth (capital T), and wonder why everyone else doesn't understand that. Then a rightist will cal their ideals Truth (capital T), and wonder why the rest of the world doesn't get it. I see both ideals as truths (lower-case t), and I wonder why they don't see the truth in each other's platforms. Then I try to take the truths from both sides and forge an amalgam that takes the best from both arguments while also taking into account the realities of human nature. It's tough, and my philosophy is ever-evolving, but no other way seems correct to me.

The poor are kept poor by liberal democrats who need to be able to promise the weak majority something in order to get votes.

Becoming wealthy does not mean that you have to take the money from someone else. Though that is one way to do it. This is, afterall, a free market economy.

Deciding that you are socialist before you have a satisfying understanding of the system, is probably not the proper thing to do, because when you will acquire progressively all elements constituting the US economy, you will be tempted to choose those which fit better with your socialist ideal. But as you are really decided to understand, you can overcome this difficulty.

Anyway, when you will start your research, I advise you not to focus initially on the wealth. Kidicious did that and it led him to a dead end. Wealth is highly, excessively, visible, but the real issue of equality is the income and how it is shared. On this way, you will meet difficulties when equality and freedom conflict, and most of your political stance will result from the issue of this unavoidable conflict.

A lot of people separate their stand points to economic and social platforms. In the end they really get screwed because what they end up with are conflicting views.
