I need a top hat by this Friday.

I'm not sure where to get one. It doesn't have to be a formal one, btw. And how much do top hats usually cost?

You can rent them at tux shops, no need to buy.

Costume top hats will be more expensive. REAL top hats are ludicrously expensive. It's a shame, because I would love to have one. I do enough stage performances wherein they would come in useful that it would be cool to have.

Plus, I love how they look (and I mean the Victorian gentleman's dress, not the Busby Berkeley musical things)!

Yeah...I'm going to wear it multiple times probably. You say expensive, but how expensive? Like can I get one for less than $40?

It's worth the cost of a trip... Even renting one will probably cost far more than finding one at a second hand store.

Make a few calls... see if one of the stores has some... ask what they will cost... and make the decision based on some real facts than just asking people at an internet site

I avoid calling people whenever possible. You should see a conversation I had with Asher while I was considering calling Zylka a few months ago when he was missing.
