Minor bugs thread for BHG Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

I think a thread should be topped to report minor bugs appearing in the game, so that when BHG is finished dealing with the major playability issues, they can have one place to look for all those minor problems players discover once they get RoN working on their machines.

I'll start here with a few I have noticed so far:

1) In a Quick Battle game, playing as the Greeks and with 3 random AI opponents, one of these turned out to be the Greeks, too.

2) Mountains are now required for building mines. Cliffs, such as in the Southwest Mesa map, do not permit mines contrary to the terrain note encouraging this.

3) A city being lost can be recaptured by timing its growth to a new size to coincide with its reduction to zero hit points. When the city is converted to the next higher size, all of it hit points are magically restored and it reverts back to the original owner.

4) Towers and forts can be "taught" how to spot spies by garrisonning them with scouts. They retain this spotting ability even after the scout leaves. Afterwards, any spy wandering close enough is finished.

Here is a very minor bug: When you try to build a building over rocks, the mouse hovertext says "Cannot build on strategic resource". The alert at the top of the screen when you click is correct.

EDIT: It only does this for some buildings, I've got to sleuth further. Will report back.

I won in the real game but lost on the replay Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Unfortunately this happened sometime ago so the
details are fuzzy as to AI I played against but the
I distinctly recall that the replay was an "alternate
reality" of what happened. I had already beaten the
AI and I wanted to take some notes down as to
what exactly I did so I started up the replay as soon
as I got the end game screen. I remember flipping back
and forth between my view and the AI's when I started
to notice that my forces had failed to take a city that
was the target of my first assault- which in my reality
was a victory. As if that wasn't weird enough, the
computer then proceeded and seized my second city at
which point the game just crashed me to the desktop.
I just threw my hands up at that point because I
couldn't make heads or tails of what I just saw.

It was just too bizarre....

cue twilight zone music...
That must have been creepy. I remember a similar bug in Starcraft- if you watched the replay of an online game, the computer would crush any human opponents...

I think this was meant to be that way, just like in MP where everybody can play as the same civ.

In my experience this only occurs after loading a saved game.

Suffering from ads?

To add another bug.

The chat text dissapearing, maybe this happens when there too much text on the screen. I know you can get your text back with ctrl+page up/down, still a bug.

Actually, that sounds like a great protection measure! In a lot of other RTS games, sore loosers would spam the message field until they died. It was quite annoying.

Thanks for Nacht for the explanation about cliffs. I tested this and mines are prevented when playing from a save. Mines are available as long as you stick with the original game.

This brings up another point, since while experimenting with Mesa maps, I started a mine and then saved the game to see what would happen after loading the save and trying to continue. I got an exception error immediately. At first I thought this was due to the fact that I happen to need a fresh reboot in between RoN playing sessions. So I rebooted, but when this save was loaded, an exception error occurred immediately.

So my conclusion is that something is corrupted whenever a game is resumed from a save file causing exception errors, and that an additional problem with mines is introduced on Mesa maps

Some other bugs I have noted:

1) Keyboard commands do not work on the initial RoN screen when the game starts. Typing "P" will not let you play. You must click it with the mouse.

2) The Versailles wonder was not reducing any kinds of research costs for me after I built it. I wrote down the costs for everything before it was completed (there was a good variety covering almost every kind of possible research) and I compared later and nothing changed. Perhaps I am misunderstanding how this bonus is applied.

3) When rotating among players when reviewing replays, what should be visible to the current player sometimes goes black. Only cities are displayed.

4) The F4 key can not be assigned. It always displays my capital no matter what group is assigned to it.

5) There are times when the music becomes distorted and other times when two soundtracks start playing simultaneously.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Two very minor bugs:
-The launch of V2 rockets is not lined up with the silo. The building might have been on a slope, but it sure looked like it was coming out of the bunker area.

-When you move a hotkey-grouped set of units over wate, their name permanently changes to "1's transport" or something similar.

I can't get that rocks/rare rsc. issue to come back, maybe I was placing the building on a reasource

i always thought that the rocks/rare rsc isuue was due to the fact that there was an oil patch there but it was still hidden as the required age was not reached yet.

also some rare resource like titanium and rubber are hidden till later parts of the game

Thats probably it. Hmmm, that's the first exploit I've heard of in this game so far.

Hmm... prolly it means 'Upgrade Research' as in upgrading Riflemen to Infantry. That's called research as well. C.f. the Statue of Victory giving free barracks units upgrades.

Here are a few more things:

1) When a game finishes the achievement statistics often differ from the final result or are not updated to reflect the final position reached in the game, especially if instant assimilations have been enabled by the World Government end tech.

2) Could be that the use of the pause button at the "wrong" time can cause two soundtracks to play at the same time.

3) There is no need to record the pauses in recorded games. All they do is interrupt the music and the flow of the replay.

Yeah, I wondered what caused that...

When you have snap to view on, it's good to see what happens during the pause. But 'snack break' pauses (not the free movement ones) should be skipped over.
