what is the peer to peer program of the moment? Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

i have not had high speed internet for about 6 months now, and just got hooked up this morning. i'm ready to get back into downloading, but haven't paid very much attention to software lately. i used to use IMesh, but i really do not want gator/gain ... and i'm sure there must be something better by now. just downloaded MIRC, but i hardly knew how to use it 6 months ago ... now i have to remember what i didn't know ...

any help appreciated. thanks.

Kazaa Lite has plenty of stuff on it.

EDonkey is also a fairly good network, and is really only viable if you have broadband.

There's also Direct Connect, although I've never quite been able to suss that out myself.

Kazaa lite is the most popular at the moment.

I myself use WinMX, because it hasn't the idiotproof looks of Kazaa, but it is similar anyways

I think Direct Connect is very popular these days, and only rising. It sucks, like all p2p-proggies, but that's life.
Kazaa sucks, WinMX is better with it's more friendly user interface and it doesn't jam your computer.

I don't use these much, but the best p2p for trading music was audiogalaxy when it was still working. It was very good, fast, and you could find rare stuff all the time, and I loved it. Too bad they had to change.. traitors.

WinMX is excellent for finding reasonably well-known tracks but falls down quite badly if you're after something rarer. Kazaa has it's uses, but unless you're on a quick connection you might as well not bother.

ED2K is excellent, just remember to use eMule, not the eDonkey2000 client.

Increase the size of your Attachments

I can't get Direct Connect to work properly, so it's Kazaa Lite (for smaller, popular files) and eMule (for larger, obscure files) for me .

That's the one... and remember: keep an eye out for the updates for eMule, they're releasing new updates often

direct connect, but I don't seem to be able to get a public server list, (or connect to any server at all)

I guess my ISP must be blocking it as friends of mine can't connect to directconnect servers too.

Pay $10 and join the Something Awful forums. You can:

Get links to private music servers that have consistently high-quality albums.

Get links to BitTorrents of movies/TV shows/books/etc.

That's the only stuff I use nowadays.
