CTW is my favorite way of playing this game, but there's still some things I'd like to see added:
The possibility to play the game with different options:
When a nation looses his/her capital, they shouldn't be kicked out of the game, but instead they should simply lose their special abilities, until they've got their capital back again...
I also prefer to have a little more Civ over this game, where you choose which discovery to discover next, during the turns... you'll have different options: Upgrade 1 of the units of your own choice, until next turn, or wait four turns, untill you discover the next age...
This means you will only be able to discover library researches during the game. Maybe after holding 10 areas, you'll be able to get to next age one turn fast, while you'll be able to upgrade 2 units in one turn...
This of course, makes the game last longer
...and as I said: This should be optional, since I know many people wont like it...
One more thing: The ability to have several attackers on the same country, during a turn. E.g. Rome and France have chosen to attack Germany in the same turn, during the fight, each player has two enemies instead of just one. When Germany looses the capital, Germany is out, but the other players still fights to take over Germanys capital (= The owner of Berlin, when the 90 minutes are gone, is the winner)...
...Maybe this is in the game, but I have yet to see it, I'm only playing my second game now...

The computer can gang up on you already if it has any ally adjacent when it attacks. Im glad you cant turn it off as the 2 on 1 matchs are really enjoyable.

Like Darthveda's idea. Having a bunch of friends group togeather as diffrent civs and starting an online CTW would be prety cool to me.
Example: You are romans, 1 of your friends are germans. If you are online when your friend is, then you can contact him, set up the game. You attack your friend and win. That is your turn. All of your other friends must play out thier turns before you play yours again. The germans want the land back, so they set up game when you are online and try to take it back.
It might sound confusing, but think about it. It would be cool.

I have thought about CtW MP also, though in a little different way:
[turn start]
Each player logs on to a server, where the game is played, and chooses where they want attack (on the big map), from where, and which units to move. Maybe also if they want to propose to be ally with some other country... and whatever can be changed there...
When everybody has made their orders, an automatic mail is sent to the players, saying who attacks who, and where... It also tells which players to contact, to play the game... That means, if player A and player B both attacks player C, all three have to find some day, when they can play the game, those players then logs on to the server, starts the game (automaticly), plays it...
When everybody has played their fight(s) for the turn, a new email is sent out, so all players knows it's time to login again, and choose where to attack, etc, again
[/turn ends]

CTW is so fast... it would be nice if it took much longer in each age. If you're not conquering a province a turn, you're not going to conquer the world.
And I really don't like not being able to attack in more than one spot per turn.
|
Agreed. See below for how to decrease aging time.

Can you change the cost/speed of technology in CTW? |
Yes, you can, you have to do some file editing though
I beleive the file name is
Rise of Nations\conquest\CTW_World_Map_01.xml
and the line your looking for is
turns_per_age="x" Replace the "x" with what ever number you would like to play with.
On a side note, if you do this, and CTW does become Multiplayer, you will probobly have to remember to change the number back to "3" for it to work.

is it just me or is the no-navy in CtW so annoying?

agreed... I especially hated it when I only had one enemy left, and I could have gone straight across the ocean to his capital... but NO I had to follow those damn lines.... I had to make my way across like 3-4 of his provinces just to get to his capital.... Oh well.. we can always hope for it in the X-pack i suppose.

You can ally in mid game with a civ that has a close close capital that looks like it will be one of the last 2. Then when its just you and them, you dont have to take so much out.

I like the idea of instead of losing your entire empire, you just lose the special abilities if you lose the capital. Either that or, like in Civ, where there's a chance that the nation is devided into factions.

Well, I was thinking specifically about CTW, but in single battles it would be cool, too.

ADG, I'm in a local RISK league... I play everyother weekend with 4 or 5 other people. Nice games. Sometimes classical, sometimes house-rules. I'm always up for some RISK... i dunno how we could play, but i'f you find a way, tell me.
I to love CTW, cause I always wished that instead of 'rolling the dice', I could load up a RTS or something.
In fact, we did this with Age of Kings few years back. (used a RISK board made from MS Paint over the net.) Whenever there wa a battle, you would load up AoK and battle it out. Was pretty tedious though. We eventually used other RTS, like Sudden Strike, and Midieval Total War.
The ages do go by very quickly, thanks Poogas for that little bit of editing info.. I'll have to try it out with like 10 turn ages.

I wish, but there's no way I can get to USA... at least for the next couple of years
But I believe you'd find a game with me, kinda boring, since I haven't played this game against another human player, since I was about 6-8 years old...
I have played it on the computer a little, but it's not that fun, so I don't play that often...
