Does anyone made any considerable sum of money from their home computer?

If so, please explain!

I know somebody who brings in Japanese items and sell them on the Web. I am not sure how much is "considerable" to you, however.

Suffering from ads?

I haven't discussed subscription fees with him, though he does accept donations...

The last I heard, ad revenues weren't even covering bandwidth; almost everything he makes is from the books and other merchandise. That probably explains why every ad I've seen recently is for the Sluggy store.

I suppose any amount about zero is considerable. Anything over a few hundred dollars (profit) is pretty impressive and a steady income where not too much time is required is quite impressive.

There are various legit ways of making money on the Web. You can sell items over on eBay or on your own website. You need a source of goods, which could be something you buy or something you make.

You can also sell services (e.g. Web design) and software.

My father-in-law sells reconditioned medical equipment. Until 5 or 6 years ago, it was a strictly bricks-and-mortar business; then my wife and I designed a (truly amateurish) webpage for him. Internet sales began slowly, but they did come; he hired a real webmaster, overhauled the pages' look, and kept at it. Now, 6 years later, the business if almost entirely web-based and he's looking to gross $1 million this year (I suspect the recession has been good for his business).

Most dotcoms went bust because they tried to provide silly "services" that hardly anybody needs. ASP's, what a joke.

yeah, thats where i did my work study during the school year, the campus' compting center. basically i sat behind a desk playing civ or doing calculus until someone came up and said something like "why isn't this printing?" or, "windows won't start. what did i do?"

it was easy work, decent pay, and flexible hours. a woderful service provided by our wonderful socialist government. thank you taxpayers. i say you give us a raise.

anyway, they provide summer internships, but most of them were in the Troy/Albany area, and i wanted to go home this summer.

besides, i'm only going into my soph. (2nd) year of uni. i got time for all the internships later
