The Wonderful Present Days Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I am glad that polio, for the most part, is a thing of the past.

I am glad that I have never had to scale cliffs, dig snow tunnels, or swim through floods to get to school.

I am happy that racial segregation is no longer legally sanctioned.

I am grateful that franchisement knows no difference between races.

I am grateful that increasing number of homosexuals can affirm who they really are.

I am glad that young adults and teenagers know how to have safe sex to prevent STDs and unwated pregnancies.

I appreciate the fact that women are less likely to be kept in an inferior, submissive strata of society.

I appreciate the fact that people have many more convenient ways to keep in regular contact with family and friends from around the world.

It's great that we have much more knowledge of individual psychology, and sociological behaviors to understand how society's problems can be approached, and how individuals can learn to live better lives.

It's great that we have a greater environmental awareness than we did 40 years ago.

Ah, the great days of the present -- kiss the yesteryears good-bye.

I'm angry that drug use is far more common...

Depends upon what drugs you are talking about. Smoking is down... way down. Though I will admit I have NO idea about alcohol usage.

I'm angry that divorces outnumber marriages...

Not true.

I'm angry that children don't have fathers...

Always been the case, Albert, regardless of the period of history you are talking about.

I'm angry that 10 million black babies have been slaughtered...

Uh, is this an abortion comment?

I'm angry that millions of babies period have been slaughtered...

This is.

I'm angry that teenage girls are getting pregnant left and right...

Teenage girls have been getting pregnant all throughout history, Albert.

I'm angry that children's parents are drug addicts...

Same as above regarding "throughout history."

Actually Albert, the big difference isn't human nature but our ability to gather and collate statistics, and then spread the information to every household.

In other words, a lot of problems are not so much worse as they are understood.

Full PM-box? Change here!

same sh1t different decade...

Polio may be gone, but we got AIDS and SARS to contend with now. Yet, I am happy that we know that we have the ability to solve these ailments, and that we have been able to increase the life expectancy... Yet, even that can be bad, because we now have to pay all them old geizers (no offense Asher) SS as long as they live and don't work, but rather squat...

Transportations and land management has gotten better to allow us to get to school easier, but with that comes smog, polution, and over population of areas that allow for the extinction of many species of animals.

Racial desegregation is great, yet we now have issues surrounding reverse prejudism along with the emergence of diseases that may or may not be attributed to interracial child birth, but we aren't even allowed to address that issue because that would be racist...

Franchisement knows no racism? Whatever...

I am happy that homosexuals can affirm who they are, and stay out of the closet... no other comment.

Safe sex is great, but then again it only seems to be the poverish and stupid people that have more babies than they need, or contract a majority of the STDs (not saying all poor ppl are stupid)... Thus, the problem falls on the richer, wiser minority that can't dictate policy to these people, because that would just not be PC.

Women getting out into the work place is great! Yet, the minute you ask them to make some copies for you or get you some coffee you get slapped with a sexual harrassment suit... even though she is your secretary!

Long distant communication is good...

Knowledge of social behaviors is nice, but in some cases it prevents anything from being done as to not to offend.

Environmental awareness is awesome, but when you force people to live somewhere else, or go without power, or even food because we need to save a slug we will have issues...

All in all I too am happier with the way the world is now than it was in yester year... Yet, it would be nice if people wouldn't of gotten so sensitive on top of it. You give people personal freedoms, and they take them and complain about them... SHUT UP!

Anyway. I am happy that we are now addressin larger issues in the world instead of isolated issues. I am happy that our horizons have extended beyond our own borders in to the world as a whole.

Nice to see people taking Mr. Fun's thread to rant about how horrible the days are now since he ruined Joseph's thread.

Why stop here?

I'm angry that people today care more about blessing homosexual unions, than patching existing marriages.

I'm angry that today's scientists researching stem cells don't wait for the Parliament to decide on the issue, but choose to go full stream ahead.

I'm angry that today, I could go to jail for praying near a clinic, yet pornography has 'artistic merit'.

I'm angry that Christian lawyers don't take more cases pro bono.

I'm angry that the only job my brother can get back home is telemarketing.

I'm happy that bathing is no longer considered a sin.

I'm happy that I have my tooth brush and tooth paste.

I'm happy that people no longer dies from a simple appendix infection.

I'm happy that people from most ethnic groups can actually get along with each other. (even intermarry with each other!)

I'm happy that we can actually start explaining what's going on in the world.

I'm happy that fewer and fewer people offer sacrifice to gods if the weather doesn't go their way.

I'm happy that we become productive enough as not to cannibalize each other every 5 years due to famines.

I'm happy that I don't have to carry water from a potentially E-Coli infected wells several hundred yards away every day.

I'm happy that people no longer have to dump their sh1t and trash on the streets.

I'm happy that I can travel from point A to point B in much shorter time and without worrying about being ambushed by all the Robin Hood would-bes.

I'm happy that I can travel to far way place and still stay in contact with my family any time I want.

You know, as a once self-professed slut AND whore, I think that you may certainly put ME on ignore, because if that's where Mark G is, I'd rather be there.

Kind of like having a choice between heaven and hell:
Heaven has Barry Manilow and a bunch of old white men, while hell will get Denis Leary, Martin Scorcese, and Ozzy Osbourne. Who would you rather spend eternity chatting with?

Well, some of us were dirt-poor as kids, and to be honest, the best present my parents ever gave me was the ability to take care of myself.

My first bike came out of our neighbour's trashcan. I loved that bike, even though it was rusty and the chain always fell off and the seat had been torched and duct-taped back together.

It's how it makes you feel, not how much it's supposedly worth.
