Examples of why we shouldn't play when tired Put an end to popups!

Traded communications with the Iroquois to England at the beginning of the same turn I eliminated the Iroquois - this is after I broke a gpt agreement with the Iroquois so now I can't deal with anyone.

Forgot to move a sword back into a town, allowing 2 barb horses to pop in, steal my money and ruin my walls.

Moved an unescorted settler off a road toward a barb camp I could SEE!

(At this point I figured I'm too tired (stupid) to play any more for the night.)

Ohhhhhhh i feel all the pain specially with the first one. Having everyone not wanting to trade with u is one of my personal gripes and usually turns a nice passive builder into a power hungary warmonger. Sometimes war is the only way.

I know Mimi is playing the AU208 course with it's attendant "no reloads when something goes wrong", but mistakes made when tired would be one reason to reload an autosave. Or you can play it out and see what happens. In the AAR's I'm writing on the strategy thread I haven't gotten to this point yet, but I forgot to pillage the English iron before taking London. When London was retaken it cost me a good 20 turns of time in taking out the English because they started rushing a bunch of swordsman units. If I had pillaged the iron I would have only been facing archers instead of swordsman. One mistake when tired can really hurt you which is why I try not to play when tired.

Truly. If I can help it I don't do anything when I'm tired. Except sleep.

Accidentally accepting the AI's original proposition instead of getting what you want for a lower price (you always can, the AI asks for higher than it will settle for).

Accidentally bombarding an ally's city with a nuke.

These are a huge pain when you haven't saved for a long time.

I think everyone should have at least one "the day after" type nuclear exchange, just to see the fireworks! But after seeing that a couple times I usualy revert to my "bomb 'em back to the stoneage" type. After all I have a reputation to uphold!

Not that I have any problem sending tanks up their gut

I tried the whole nuclear warfare thing in CTP1 and CTP2 when there was a wonder that stopped all nukes. There isn't one in Civ3. I might try it in the AU208 game I'm playing since my reputation is already shot.

By the way, amassing a bunch of nukes and sending them all off the turn before you complete the wonder that defuses them...that's a nasty thing to do to the AI in CTP.

I used to like nuclear wars but when you get hit by a nuke it isn't pretty. It destroys all of this work you have done with one click of the mouse. I hate seeing a metropolis (owned by me of course) with all of its tiles worked on that produces tons of shields, commerce, and culture get flattened. I always go for missile defense, but enough nukes get through the shield to make me mad.

Try the nuke-fest that I used to finish off AU 207: Big Planet.

Watch the AI civs' counter-attack... 41 ICBMs, but only 9 get through, as I have the SMD.

Fun fun fun.

Theseus:

That's what I am talking about!

I have had a few games like that, including one in which I nuked India's capitol, got a rop with the French, and sacked the Indian capital to prevent their SS launch next turn (India had a slight production advantage over me) . The turn after, it was my turn to blast off to the stars.

The thing with Nuclear exchanges is that they are so anti climactic. There is really no fireworks to speak off. just a lot of pollution.

Funny thing is it was known as "Seward's Folly" for a long time

That is before they discovered Gold and of course there's lots of oil too.

You should get into a nuclear war at least once, if only to see the cool animations....

Exactly. Especially when you pull the zoom back to get a better view of them falling out of the sky. Good stuff. If I have nukes after I've won a game, I always play a couple of turns just to rain nuclear fire throughout the lands.

I did that once - a couple hundred per turn really got my attention when I discovered my source of income loss!!

I think I learned THAT lesson well enough!
