Ok, so we're England, which means we're Com/Exp and start with Pottery & the Alphabet.

I say we start with a beeline for Mapmaking.

That way we can build galleys and sail 'round the world & stick a flag in!

Plus, MM is a valueable tech.

What do you think?

Hopefully our scouts can get us useful techs like BW, WC and CB from huts, so I'm in favour of going for Writing as the first research tech.

We've seen in the other DemoGame that tech typically progresses much faster in MP than in SP. For this reason I'd be inclined not to go for Literature (and the GL), but instead go for MM and get some galley's out there exploring.

Going for the Great Lighthouse could be a valid option - after the great help it gave us in the first demogame I wouldn't mind getting it again.

We'll have to see what the land looks like. With any luck we'll have suitable terrain to get a Granary up and running quickly.

Btw....

Research tactics for the early game have been discussed to death in the strategy forums of ACS and CFC, so we aren't revealing any amazing secrets here, but we should bear in mind that this forum isn't private yet.

Bump.

Ok, writing is due pretty soon. We will be able to trade for IW. So, IIRC, our options for research are:

Literature
Code of Laws
Philosophy
Mysticism
The Wheel
Map Making
Mathematics

I don't see Mysticism as a valid option right now. It's only value is, well, we need to get it and Polytheism to get out of the ancient era.

The Wheel will be the easiest to research. I'd actually like to ask Monkey to handle that one, since they seem to have low commerce & growth (no early granary, since they don't have pottery yet).

Lit... well, it's nice, but we're just beginning our REX mode, and it's not like we will be able to stop and build libraries for a while.

MM - don't see the need for this yet. We don't even have a coastal city yet.

Col & Philo are expensive as all hell, but they lead to a far superior government.

Hmm. Perhaps we could convince the others to go in on a 40-turn research pace for CoL, Philo, and Literature. Then two of us start picking off the early techs that have been skipped, while one of us goes for Republic.

The idea of the three of us handling CoL, Philo and Lit is a good one - I'll mention it to the other teams.

Failing that I'd like to see us work towards Republic on our own (and encourage Monkey towards the wheel). We could get a good price for the techs and I'm, eager for us to change government as soon as possible. I just hate Despotism.

Yeah, my thoughts as well. I want to get to republic quickly. Once we do that, we can actually USE some of that gold we've hoarded (I was thinking of rushing - or short rushing - a library in Izz).

Let's see what people say to the CoL+Philo+Lit idea.
