My rambling thoughs... Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Our mission: To make lots of food and grow big.

How: OK, first, NO MINING except in those locations where irrigation is not possible (Hills and mountains). This means that we have to hope to have some good shield producing lands around our core cities.

Granaries: A requirement for our civ. Each city will build one first thing, prior to anything else. This makes the Pyramid our first and foremost priority. We need to have one of our first 4 cities start on one right a way.

Expansion: We are Chinese. That means we are industrious and militaristic. In other words, our road network will grow bonkers like, and our military will be strong. Therefore, I propose we Rex a little bit, but make war on all of our neighbors as soon as feasible. An archer rush with 4 archers and a single spear can take 2 cities of an enemy civ. It is better to burn them down then let that civ get going. So – war early. War often. Eat the dead, and the occasional live enemy.

Food resources: Horses make excellent food. Therefore, we should research that tech first. Afterwards, pottery (if we don’t get it any other way). If we find any wine or beef within another cities radii – we demand that city.

Never, ever declare war. Our rampaging forces are extremely hungry is all and decided to go that way. We should assume that a state of war exists with all other teams at all times, as they are undoubtedly eating our food. Occasionally, our diplomats should declare peace with another civ to just confuse the hell out of them.

We need to get an advanced government ASAP. Who cares which one. Until then, any and all irrigation is worthless. Therefore, we will have the best road network of any and all other civs.

Forests and Jungle – a good place to chop things down and get more food growing. They will all be destroyed. Watch out for the monkeys. They will try and attack us for doing so. Un-bloated fools.

Remember - this game is about doing stupid things and having fun, not about winning. So when all those other teams loose, remind them of that.

OK. Those are my rambling thoughts. Yours?

We need some trees!

Apples, Oranges, Bananas... all FOOD from trees!

Also, while all the food is better than just some of it, we need time to eat in peace as well. Otherwise we're likely to have to skip a meal or two to give battle, and that's just too costly a price to pay for world (food supply) domination...

I agree with Aeson, irrigation and trees. No mining. Why would you want to mine? You can't eat any of it?

Agree with most of your thoughts, GK, with the addendum that Aeson points out: many trees are very edible

On mining: I think we should allow ourselves mines where it wouldn't do any good to irrigate (grasses without food bonuses). We would, of course, turn all of this into irrigation as part of our preparation for an advanced gov; food is all-important. And I agree we should keep some forests around.

Looking at our strategy (granaries, irrigation, and the Pyramids), I wonder if the Mongols wouldn't have suited our style better. We do seem quite a warmongering Horde.

Mongols or Chinese, either way we'll feast on the other teams.

As to the mining question... we can mine just the hills and mountains if we're going for max food production. That way we can still produce enough Riders to "induce" others to join our caloric way!
