	I'm such a n00b it isn't funny Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I got a new computer recently, and today I was looking through all the games and this was there. so how do you play and how do I get started?

come on, please help me. I keep trying to play but it keeps asking my computer stuff I dont know. I've tried reading the introduction and taht crap but it's all in techno jargon. please help me I just want to play a game

n00b? Is that the serial number for the NSA chip that controls you? There's nothing wrong with being a n00b, they keep forums like this alive (windoze users also help a lot ). If you just want to play against an AI that might beat you, you start the server first, then start the client and it should say localhost in the host box and 5555 in the port box. Click connect and the client will connect to the server. Now, either start up another client if you want to play against yourself (which can be quite fun), or switch back to the server and type show at the prompt. This will show you what all the options are set to. Fiddle with the options by typing "set ". To find out what an option is for type "help ". Make sure you set the aifill to something other than 0, or it will be a very boring game. When you are finished changing options type "start". It should pop up a window asking which nation you want to play as. Choose whichever you please because it makes no difference in gameplay. The city type and leader name are also insignificant. Switch back to the client window and you should see some settlers and explorers scattered around the screen (or all on one space if you left the dispersion set at 0). Explore with the explorers, build cities with the settlers, and if you see a little hut, move an explorer onto because settlers are too valuable and there is a small chance you could lose the unit. Use the in-game help as it has a lot lower latency.

It's awful slow going, and all i seem to be able to do is move my people arround. is there anything they can do?

If you want to run into more AI's set the aifill to 30. Here's a file with the server settings I use when I want the research to be really fast. Put it in your freeciv data directory. To have the server load it type "read fast_research_settings". If you don't trust me, open the file in a text editor (such as Emacs(or notepad if you use windows)) and type the commands in yourself. Here are the technology goals I go for, in order: Monarchy, Chivalry, Leadership, Communism, Stealth. If you read around you will find that most players prefer Republic but I prefer Communism because I can sell my palace without suffering corruption problems which makes throwing my nation into civil war impossible.

We all have to start somewhere...Don't worry about the start. All civgames start slowly because the civs still have to settle and build an empire.
