And I forgot the last one, but it was in the early 1800's when America stupidly tried to invade Canada.

Actually, there was no such thing as canada in 1776-1783. It was a crown colony and thus only a greater part of th British empire. The same is really true of 1812-15 though Canadins define it as a battle between them and the Americans, even though they were still a crown colony. As for the French and indian war: crwn colony of France, and Americans were subject of England, so that certainly doesn't count.

America didn't fight in the French and Indian war. Those would have been Brit troops invading French territory.

Just like in the war of 1812 and the revolution, American troops fought Brit troops in Canada.

America never made war to Canada.

PS: the troops in the French and Indian war, of course, were mostly born and raised in the colonies. But still.

Well then technically we didn't fight in the Boer War or World War One either since we weren't 'independent'.

And why do Canadian regiments have histories and colours commemorating these 'non-Canadian' battles which they were involved in?

Because Canada has historically been a part or province of England, and we are completely intertwined. The Loyalists colonizing Southwestern Ontario did NOT see themselves as creating a new independent country, yet nevertheless they were 'Canadian'.

Most Canadian history books don't start Canadian history at Confederation, they start it at the BNA.

It's like talking about Italy...not a united and independent country until very late, but still you can talk about 'Italian' history, and nationalism. The Italians are Italians no matter what little state they were from, and the Canadians were Canadian no matter the map happened to say at the time.

The birth of a nation is a matter of ideas not documents and maps, and we are much older than our documents.
