Woohoo!

Yes Yes Yes I did it!

You might wonder what it is I accomplished? I made it to Uni, even though I was sure I wouldn't. Apparently I had full score on the ones I did, time ran out so they don't count. I was disappointed that I didn't get to the Uni I really wanted, but I got to other big Uni so it's ok. I don't want to stay there, but I can try transfering to other schools, and even to the US too from there. So, I'm happy. And the most important thing is that I can move on. Plus there are women that don't know me...

I got my break, finally. I congratulate myself and feel good that I overcame the obstacle of my life, even if it might seem a small one to many. I'm so happy I could go and drive a car crash! I can start applying to schools in the US etc.. but that damn degree will be mine, and I will do excellent, as I trust my skills now that I'm over the tough part. Thanks to all the people who have supported me, Japher, Sloww, Kramerman, paiktis, Spiffor, obiwan18, Cruddy, Olaf.. and all the rest I'm forgetting now.

sorry for making tons of threads about myself, but with all the negative stuff I just wanted to post something positive too. Plus I'm excited!

paiktis, I was! And mind you I didn't get to the Uni I wanted. I was right about that, I was just dredding that I won't make it to other Unis either. But it's all good now. I'm also happy that on the edge of total failing and success I managed to pull it off when desperation set in.
With all the pressure built in these few years and the situation were I thought I failed completely, the victory is so sweet I can't believe it! It's like killing 5 enemies with one shot!

It is a success! Cause you didn't just pass the exams, you passed them in a time period that was very hard for you. But you prevailed. It's actually a double success. Again congrats

What Uni did you get to? I just came back from an interview from Helsinki University's department of translation studies, which are for some reason located in Kouvola... it seemed to go well, and the interviewer mentioned that my scores on the written part had been among the top 5

On the other hand, it's in Kouvola.

Japher, computer science.. it's pretty tough, since there are less than thousand free spots in the whole country, and the method I had to use to apply allowed less than 400? nation wide, so I'm really happy.

Stefu, Kouvola.. aargh . But that's what you wanted to do, translate, right? Go for it man... I was picky about where I want to study, I didn't get where I really wanted to, and I have to move quite far from here, but hey.. I have learned to appreciate it! It doesn't matter where you go (in Finland) if it's not some very crappy Uni.
My advice is to take it, because if you get bored, you can try to change schools, apply to foreign countries etc.. and you'll be going forward all the time.

I really feel that way and I'm not ashamed to say it, I deserved it. I spent a long time in the army plus failed last time in exams by just 2 points, so last time I've been actually in school was 3 years ago, so it's hard to study and prepare yourself and get the rhythm.. but I do feel I got a break, since it's not very easy to get in so you need luck too. And now lady fortune was with me.

my advice is to never give up, keep dreams and hope alive and you'll make it one way or another, sooner or later. Never quit, never stop.

Well, I've also applied for Tampere's and Joensuu's translation depts (Joensuu's is in Savonlinna, WTF is it with making my life harder anyway?), and if I get the Tampere place I'm going there, obviously (It's a real university instead of just a department and it's not in Kouvola)

Yeah I do. It's happened to me and students I've taught numerous times.

When you get to university people often have higher standards for themselves since they are used to doing well. I passed my German course this year by some margin despite thinking that I'd failed miserably.

The pressure of exams tends to amplify one's sense of failure.
