The Voice of Sunshine! Increase the size of your Attachments

This is the Wisdom of the Sunshine People!

I, as the Voice of Sunshine, have started this thread to help us focus on our philosophy and our strategy for this game. I ask all of the wisemen of the Sunshine People to join in and contribute your wisdom in this thread.

Our first question must be to ponder what it truely means to be Sunshine. What is our team truely about? How can we channel that theme into a success for our people? How can we best portray our theme to others?

I believe that the meaning of TEAM SUNSHINE is this: We personify goodness, happiness, growth, freedom, love, and friendship.

These are some of the beliefs I think we should hold:

We abhor darkness, hatred, destruction, discord, and hostility.

We should actively seek to be friends with all nations we meet, even the obviously mean ones. We should never threaten or bully anyone. We should not lie, play deceptive games, or betray other nations.

We should stay out of wars whenever possible and should only start wars when the GREATER GOOD of the world and our people is at stake.

We should actively seek to grow, expand, and fill up as much land as possible so that our people have room to be free and so that we may have AS MANY SUNSHINE PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE living in freedom and harmony under our benevolent guidance.

Happiness is important, so our nation should seek out luxuries whenever possible.

We will aim to win via Spaceship, Culture, Score, or Diplomacy. We will not seek to conquer the world and need to feel a pull to conquer our neighbors to win.

We should always say positive and friendly things in public. We must show a sunny disposition at all times.

Agreed about the sunny and friendly (etc.) part. We'll be the ultimate builder team. But the question is: what happens if we are threatened, or attacked?

Let's let the world know that we're builders and traders, so they don't perceive us as any kind of threat, but, at the same time, don't let them perceive us as lunch.

Another thing: with so much "goodness" around, if we can gain the trust of other civs, maybe we can be a little more creative in this game than normal. Ideas I have:

  • Create a "training field": we declare (with their approval) war on another team and then send each other some warriors to train higher units, thus increasing the chances for generating GLs.
  • Share demographic information to better know the state of the world.
  • Hire workers from industrious civs.
  • Co-ordinate units from different civs in pairs to scare away potential attackers.

In short, any idea based on the complete trust between two civs would qualify here.

and which team can we trust that much?

Are there any city-improvements that we shouldn't build due to their lack of sunshinyness?

I believe that we should follow this early game policy:

Explore, explore, explore. We need to know where the others are and where we should plan to expand to. The sooner the better. I fully support BigFree's plan to create a large # of early exploring warriors.

High growth and commerce sites are preferred.

We should expand like crazy building Hoplites and Settlers and filling in our land at a rapid pace. Our cities will either be building settlers or Hoplites in the beginning, after our initial warrior explorers are out in force.

We need to build very little else and can field a very strong defensive army, adding a few swords or horsemen if needed. So long as our Mil Strength is Ave to any possible attacker, they would never come after us. Attacking Hoplites requires overwhelming military strength AND we'd enjoy a GA in defense of our Sunny nation.

Well once we have a better understanding of all the nations we should then decide who to trust.

It does not matter what civ they come from. All captured/hired workers work at half the rate of our regular workers.

Suffering from ads?

I'm not talking about capturing them. The workers will remain citizens of the civ they come from. They just move through our lands and improve our fields. In return, we pay their bosses some gold.

We once discussed this option with Legoland ... renting some of their Industrious workers. Never actually happened but it's actually not a bad idea.

Our team is not going to be the secretive, hidden, suspicious type. We're going to end up trading WMs with our neighbors, and we won't have any secret military build-up to hide ... allowing a stack of 4-6 Industrious workers to build a road or irrigation system for us for profit is an excellent way to gain trust, get needed improvements, and while the owner nation has their workers in our territory, we'll be certain they won't attack us.

Furthermore, we're not Industrious, we're going to be using our Pop for city building, not worker armies. Getting our land improved is going to be a challange, indeed.

I'm going to wait to decide on something like this much later in the game. We may have some food bonus tiles that make building workers easy on us. We'll have to wait and see.

Sure. We don't need to decide anything like this now. It's just an attempt at getting creative.
