If you have a SAV from a few turns before (auto2?), try replaying your exact moves. Sometimes the AI seems to give multi-turn orders (proceed to this tile and attack...); save at the end of each turn until the one they attacked. Retry it several times; there could be an AI decision tree fork in there that was influenced by a random event.
