What guitar do I get? Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

I have £500 to spend on a new guitar, at the moment, I have a Westfield accoustic (steel) and a lame lil Marshall Rocket special edition lead. I got a reasonable amp so dont need to worry about that, but I want a decent electric.

I play rhythm, but in a lead-like style, using a lot of riffs, and I want a relatively clean sound that will work with a slide.

Nah, get one with strings. I heard those are best and produce the bestest sound.

Urgh, tough queston to answer. Guitars are such a personal thing. It's like asking which girl should I go out with. Totally depends on your own style, also what you like the look of.

I got an Epiphone Les-Paul custom Flametop a few years ago. That was about £500 retail. Got it with case, strap, strings and a Marshall pedal for £500 in the end. I play rock though. (download songs from http://www.sonicundermind.co.uk )

You've got to go to a guitar shop and play some really.

How many bass players does it take to change a lightbulb?

One, and a guitarist to show him how to do it.

Tired of ads?

How many Iraqis does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

There is no lightbulb, and if there ever was one it has committed suicide at the gates of Baghdad.

Yes, I'm bored.

How many sopranos does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Two. One to change the bulb, and another to pull the chair out from under her.

Sloww has a good point there, strats are very good flexible guitars. You can get pretty much any sound you want out of a Strat.

Also worth checking out are Yamahas. My housemate got a Yamaha Pacifica at the same time I got my Les-Paul. It's a very good guitar. The build quality and sound generally are much higher than an equivalent price range Fender Squier. (It was about £160 I think, roughly the same as the Korean Squiers).

Standard tele doesn't have humbuckers.

You can get Telecasters for £500 though. Maybe not the top American Fenders but plenty of other nice ones.
