An Iraqi team managed to drub a few GIs who happened to be there . . . whats your point? A local club team here would likely beat those guys too . . . Its not like soccer is that popular in the US
If they invaded Canada, any local group might drub the military guys in hockey too ( depends on whether the unit is from Minnesota or Alabama)

I thought that 11-0 was nuclear bombs dropped on the enemy capital, according to Mohammed Said al-Sahaf.

I saw an interesting documentary few days ago about WWII and how the Nazis started organizing soccer games with invaded people. Good propaganda, to show the world that here we are playing soccer, having fun and not treating these people bad.
Anyway, there was a Russian team called Start, and they were really good. They were so good, that they won every game even when others played dirty and referee himself tried to make them lose. Still they won, so they were very good.
Then they played the most important game against Nazis, and Nazis had formed a good team too. The idea was to show that they're superior race, and there were lots of officers etc in the audience. They wanted to see how good they were, and how bad the ubermench were.
Well didn't happen. In the half time they threatened to kill the players etc.. like from both sides. But, Start still won and they knew it was lots of problems it they win, they could be sent to concentration camps, IF lucky.
But it was their chance to give a little something back, they won it with ease, and they were sent to camps, many of them were shot, but few managed to escape. Tough price to pay.. but they still did it. And it gave lots of hope and pride etc to the folks oppressed there.
It was a good documentary..
