1. abolish quotas varying on different regions of the world. meaning, if you only let 50,000 asians in, and then turn around and let 500,000 euros in, that's not right. if you're going to have a quota, set it up at one ceiling for everyone: 1million total.

2. enforce illegal immigration laws regularly and stringently.

3. require immigrants have all proper papers, identification, and a criminal check from their home government when they choose to come to the us permanently, with exceptions made for asylum seekers.

4. deport immigrants who commit felonies. no appeals.

Despite what international news agency fed you that line, it's misleading. Such abuses were rare. I've been to Kosovo... I've had family that survived the Holocaust... to equate the removal of rebel ethnic groups funded by Al Qaeda and other terrorists to what the Nazis did is not only ignorant, but extremely mistaken... and frankly... a pile of bullsh1t.

legal residency and citizenship are two different things... don't think they are one in the same... Imagine if the 2 million + illegals in this country (or however many) applied for the blanket legal status... they would be subject to taxation and the government would generate large amounts of new revenue. Plus, such programs could have other strings attached, such as labor or military service quotas. Imagine if the government had a branch of service dedicated to manual labor. After two years of service, one becomes eligible for citizenship. The would give the US government a large work-force at it's fingertips. Better yet, the labor could be leased to private companies. Think of how much revenue that would bring in.

The problem with immigration is that nobody is thinking about how it could be used to the advantage of all sides. And frankly, I'm surprised more business/capitalist types haven't thought of these ideas yet.

Most people talk about the illegal mexicans, but there are also illegals from other countries. There are those on my step-dad's side of the family that activly sneak in people from poland (and sneak them back for the free health care).

that has promise. It would be a good way to bring in tax revenue from them. Of course once they see how much they have to pay in taxes, they may not want to be a citizen or a legal resident. But they do need something to help pay for the social programs. Some states are going broke.
