Now can we start calling them "french fries" again? Increase Your PM Length

Now that it's clear that French doubts about Bush admin WoMD claims were not ill-founded, is the anti-French thing fading out in the US?

I can't tell from over here. Please tell me that embarassing display is over!

we call it: "ne pak fritte" , or in better dutch : "een pak frieten"

Btw someone abroad should start serving fries in our typical pointed, paperlike recipients like this

A godlike gift it is!

Also for those people who like to drink a glass or two: this meal is so greasy and full of fattening unhealthy substances that is perfect to eat before a night out drinking.. You won't get drunk that fast if you eat this... Well that's what we do over here anyway

Pommes Frites exactly!!

"Pommes" is french for "apple".
"Pommes de Terre" is french for "Potatoes"; it means "apples of the earth"

And frites because they are fried.

Btw, I like Burger King fries much more than McDonald's. Much much more!

Trajanus, the thing is that you shouldn´t eat before going out - so that you get drunk fast

Ata, I must agree with you on that one. For the Pommes, Burger King is far more better than McDonalds (or 'Donken' in west-swedish) will ever dream about being. But then again, what is good at McD these days?

In case you were wondering...

the explanation is quite simple: in English, 'to french' means (or at least meant) 'to cut into lengthwise pieces'. You probably know 'frenched beans'. So logically, French Fries is short for 'frenched and fried potatoes'. In fact, the English call them 'chips', a word which has a similar meaning (a chipped piece of wood).

belgian fries

McDonald's has the better burgers. Or at least they offer much more variety. They have special "weeks" dedicated to some events/countries/.. where they sell special burgers and stuff.
At BK you get the same every time. At McD at least there is the chance to discover a new taste
I just hope McD will do their Greek-weeks again. The McKropolis was one of the best burgers I have eaten so far.
Or when McD sell Potato Wedges mhmmmm with sour cream dip mhmmmmmmmmm
They should include them in their standard repertoire

As for the McDs V Burger King quality thing - they both do good and bad batches. For me the key thing is to order when they are fairly busy - the fries being replaced regularly. But not so busy they have had to undercook them. Tourist traps do horrible things to quality control...

Well Evil, that sauce is mayonaise, but there is a wide array of sauces to plunge those fries in, for example, ketchup, or samurai sauce!

Besides, at least we have good chips (you call fries chips, but we call this chips (don't know if you do too though))

in the uk there is only filth such as onion 'n cream, cheese and onion, prawn cocktail (OMG ) and horrid stuff like that...

It really strikes me how big the differences are between belgium and the rest of the world in the candy section...

Onion and cream is more a Pringles thing. You forgot such delights as Worcester Sauce, Tomata Ketchup, Four Cheeses and Hedgehog. The last is very rare though. We've got everything else you've got in crisps (or chips).

McD has more variety if you look at the menu, but really, they all taste same... They got something they call Flatbread Chicken as a drive in Sweden now tough, it tastes pretty good... And they had this "Jätteburgare" (in english probably called something like "really large burger) which at least didn´t taste as all the other burgers...

Now, the really sad part about McD, at least in Sweden, is that they got the best quality on the meat etc than any other fast food company, and still - they fail completly in making it taste good...

Oi, what about our famous Vanilla flavoured Monster Munch. Its our equivalent of your 'pissing' statue

Still, lets be friends, french-fries/chips/pommes were invented in Dundee (allegedly) but the best candy does indeed come from Belgium.

Also we have those 'wonderful' thick chips that come in all shapes and sizes, dunked in delicious runny brown sauce.... To quote Freddy Mercury, "Sheer Heart Attack!
