	Why do people think Powell and Thomas are democrats? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

i was talking to someone and they said how they wished Powell would run against Bush in the coming election... so i said maybe in 08 but no party would nominate even a popular politician over an incumbent president... he then seemed puzzled and said he meant Powell would run for his part, the Democrats! when i, someone shocked, said that powell is a republican, this boy's response was, "but he grew up poor..."

And i've had similiar conversations with people with not just Powell but also people talking about how great the 'democrat' Clarence Thomas is.

what the hell? how do people like these politicians, say they would vote for them, etc. and think they're democrats?!

god damn the republicans would be guarenteed the inner city vote if only the people here knew anything about politics...

Problem : One friend of Speer's, who's thinking of voting a democrat, is a complete moron when it comes to political system of the United States.

Probably just assumed that because they are Black they are Dems. I highly doubt this guy has paid any attention to Thomas' politics if he thinks he's a great Democrat.

Are your constitutional judges that famous ? I personally couldn't name one of mine, despite being a polsci students. Our constitutional judges are mostly useless anyway.

The division of powers in France is different. The Court is a very big deal here in the US, and they are in the news constantly, at least during their term.

I guess they are as important name recognition wise as members of the cabinet, but I am sure a lot of Americsn would not be able to name one member of the Cabinet (they might know Powelland Rumsfeld, but they porbalby don;t associate the names with the notion of Cabinet).

Personally, I think this ignorance, willful or not, is responsible for the slow of deterioration of our rights, like those in the 4th amendment.

If the majority of young people can't name the VP of the USA (and i've seen some polls to that effect), how can we expect them to grasp even larger issues that shape american society? Truly sad

They should be . They can invalidate laws just like that. So I'd think knowing them would be a good exercise. I knew all of the current members on the court even before I came to Law School.

well, even after AP Gov't and having to 'memorize' the names of the judges, I only know Clarence Thomas (seems to be the only judge people around here know) though if Estrada is on the court now (what happened with that?), then I know two court members
