Text display error Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I have a problem with the display of the text in Civ3.

When I first bought the game there was no problem but after re-installing Win98 and returning to Civ3 the problem is there. I have tried re-installing Civ3, tried the latest patch but no use.

The problem is that the text in the game gets compressed to a singel line and the text in the menues is not aligned with the buttons.

I have a P-III 700 MHz, 384 Mb memory, Direct X 9.0, a NVidida Ge-Force II graphics card.

I have noticed that this error is reported in the thread http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...&threadid=38341 but am wondering if anyone knows a sollution to the problem?

/Anders

There is something about this error somewhere. I think it might be that yo have more than 255 fonts (I think that was the number) instaled or an incorrect version of Lucida Sans in your \Windows\Fonts directory or something else like that.

Have tried it. I only have 91 fonts and I re-installed Lucinda Sans and also tried to copy it from the Civ3 Cd.
No effect

Does the game and your desktop share the same resolution?

Yes.

> Are you using font smothing?

And yes.

I contacted tech-support and their only reply was sending me the official FAQ (which I already had read). No help there, I guess.

I fixed mine, for some reason re-installing the 1.21F patched worked. Have you tried that?

The v1.21F patch is for those that use Civilization III: Play the World.

I play the original Civilization III but I'll try to re-install that patch.

(edit) It did not help unfortunately (/edit)

Full PM-box? Change here!

I finally solved my problems with the game. I installed the last WHQL-certified (for windows 98) drivers for my Ge-Force II card (version number 40.72).

After that I first installed DirectX 9.0 from a downloaded file but that did not help. I downloaded the web-install for DirectX 9.0b and after that the problem disappeared.

Now the game only crashes on occasion!

Victory!
