	How can we recruit new people? Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Hi,

I was wondering: since this forum shows up nowhere on Poly - how can new players join us? Or is that not an option, due to security reasons?

most of our new members are through references by existing members.

shall we give some incentive to existing members to recruit new member ? like allow them to name a city if they introduce > 5 members ? just an idea, u know, it does not have to be naming a city, could be something else.

Well - in general, I think we can do with some extra members.

More people = more ideas = more good ideas = better gameplay.

To ensure that we're recruiting 'good' people (both in terms of gameplay and security issues), we could post a recruiting message at the strategy forum, and we can check out the members that apply.

I have had a few people PM me in the SPDG asking about this ISDG thing, as well as a Civ2DGer.

I think it would be best to have a thread in the SPDG, as I can top that instantly and there would be no need to deal with any of the major mods. Furthermore, a newZupdate would of course be best, but we would need to think hard about the content.

We could I guess just have a generic one - Consuls' and Ministers' names, start civ, starting conditions, that Poly's best and brightest are banding together fighting to prove we are better than any other site, even better than the programmers!

I'd like to see what others can think of that we should include in such an update too.

Just a small toss-in of a note, but let's make sure we're not trying to ignore quality for sake of quantity. There are no morons in our midst as of recently; lets keep it that way.

Morons have as much of a right to be part of our democracy than non-morons. This is something we discussed rather heatedly at the very beginning of this DG. As long as the morons are not actually destructive in their behaviour, they should be welcomed into our team. This is why panag stayed around so long, because other than getting under peoples' skin, he never actually did anything wrong (until near the end, that is).

Very true. The only reason for not permitting someone to come in here would be because we have doubts about their trustworthiness. Not just that we don't know them, we actually suspect they may announce information to other teams, cheat or sabotage us somehow. This would really ruin the fun, but we must of course give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Think of it as a RL democracy - everyone is allowed to live freely in our society until under suspicion or proven guilty - and you're no criminal if your vice is just stupidity!

Repeatedly getting under people's skin could be considered "doing something wrong" if it costs you members and/or participation, could it not?

Speaking as a relatively new person to the ISDG I think posting in c3DG is a good idea, but posting in the general or strat forum might be good too. I didn't join up for quite a while because I'd read that someone needs to "know" you first. It put me off for a while until I noticed a thread in the C3DG forum that prompted me to go ahead and try.

And of course now I'm glad I did. I haven't posted too much here yet, but I've been following all the recent turns.

I think that more people would be good. They need not be civ Gods. However, there is one quality we should watch out for, or be on guard against its absence. That is maturity, and I do not mean physical age.

There are 14 year olds I would welcome on this team. There are some adults I would not. We really do not need some one to spill any beans in a fit of childish pique.

I would look at posting history, and the response of any applicant to the challenge about the rules. That is what I would base decisions on.

I don't know if you guys have noticed but a few days ago some of us FAM guys have put up a "Greatest Moments in ISDG Chat" in our sigs with some of the most memorable (if you can call it that) quotes. Many of us also show our titles or something which reveals we are in the ISDG.

I think most of the "regulars" in Apolyton know about the ISDG and if they haven't joined, it's because they are not interested.

A few days ago, right after we founded Hispanica, I posted a thread in the Spanish forum saying we had a city named after us and that it showed how important the Spanish community is bla bla bla (I gave no details of the game of course). I was hoping someone would join but only one of them showed a remote interest and might join in a few weeks...

It would also help if the server didn't get bogged down so much. (Both Friday and Monday the server here was too slow to get on any of the forums.)
