Well, I just hit "my threads" and, as often happens, on EVERY thread with new posts, the most recent poster was RAH.
So it looks to me like the desire to post is not the difference. back atcha, buddy. 
IMHO, the Democracy forums are a fine example of strengthening the Poly community, and so should be paid the same respect as the other forums. They do require leadership (and yes, a vision) to keep them going in a positive way. Posters like Hydey, H Tower, atawa, cavebear, and others have added to the community through their participation. Strategies are discussed, people learn more about the game, and get to know each other. Is that actually so different than what happens on the MP forum? The same can be said for the Demo games in the Civ3 and other fora as well.
The fact that you prefer other Poly activities (MP, modding, OTF) doesn't mean the Demo forums should be dismissed.
To each his own.
