I don't dress up smart unless I can avoid it...what's the point?

Lars-E, and that's why I always ask if it's casual wear or how people are supposed to be clothing themselves .
I also did the same, and it was supposed to be a dinner in a nice place, and these folks where middle aged, so I thought I should dress properly and had my better suit sent from home because I had the time and didn't want to buy a new one. And then these guys are dressing like going to mcdonalds? wtf?! After all the trouble I went through, and the place was supposed to be nice. Now if someone says nice place, that should mean it's a better place than normally, and that it's not steaks and BBQ stuff, but expensive little steaks and stuck up atmosphere, and you were a suit when you go there.
I rarely put my suit on, but I thought this was the case here. If I was going out with buddies there, I'd just put something clean and proper, not a suit but.. I just wanted to appear like a smart guy and that I have respect for the evening. Man, did I make a fool out of myself !

But I learned, that you can ask what to wear, and it's not a biggy.. and I think that's a good way of doing things. And the guys didn't mean nice as in expensive and nice, but rather 'nice' as in they like the place and frequently go there. But it was my mistake, not theirs.
