	Strom's Black Daughter Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Interesting Slate article here about something that seemed to get ignored during the eulogies given yesterday.

How screwed up is the South to have a hypocritical racist serve for this long in Congress? The article disputes the idea that Strom ever reconciled his views. My favorite line from the article:

"The reason the South is the most interesting region in the country is that it's the only place where the psychic landscape is parceled out equally among Marx, Freud, and God. "

If the Civil War had ended differently with the South gaining sovereignity, right now us Yanks would probably be living next to a totalitarian regime similar to Iran. Only difference is it would be a theocracy based on Christianity instead of Islam.

Feephi makes my point for me. As for no supporting arguments we can look at your assertion that the South as a seperate country would be totalitarian... based on the fact that Thurmond may (but may not) have had a black child.

The timing just after his death gives you a very strong clue about the story's reliablity. In adition to having a pripicpal witness silenced, most defamation laws do not protect the dead. When something juicy like this pops up shortly after the death of the subject, you know it was because they could not back it up in court and face a defamation trial while the subject was alive.

If they are glib enough, one-liners don't need supporting arguments.

Besides, if you added supporting arguments, it would no longer be a one-liner.
