PTWDG Scores VS. ISDG Scores Increase Your PM Length

It seems there's a much much wider gap between #1 and #8 in this game than there is (was) in the PTWDG. Why is this?

-- City layout. Score is based on population and territory. Since we've been going for a dense build and no one else has, that's driven our score down, even though the difference in populations isn't that big. (Aside: IMHO, basing score ONLY on those two things isn't the greatest of ideas...)

-- Culture. The civs on the other continent are likely to be building up cultural improvements. Really, my only evidence in support of this is that two civs over there have Literature and no one over here does. That, and GCA seems to be the only one on this side going for culture (and their score is the highest on this continent).

Okay, I don't have a save from around that time in the PTWDG (~1050 BC), and there's no record of the exact scores, but I'm pretty sure the difference between 1st and last wasn't around 100 points!

Maybe they are already industrial over there

Actually I think its just Vlad said, mostly a function of square milage of the territory between 1st and last place.

As much as we've been neglecting score, I would like to point out that if operation "Ambush Spaceship" doesn't work, we may very well be at "points wins" a real-time year or so from now.

The PTWDG is set on Chieftain, right? Could that affect the scores?

Not that I know of. Either that or somehow there are too many Content Citizens in the GS empire!

That's stupid... the PTWDG started as a Monarch-level game, though, right?

Think so. But I think every PBEM game gets bumped down to chieftan level for one reason or another.

Comparison between the ISDG and the PTWDG on 1025 BC:

code:
Team Cities GNP MFG Prod Units Pop PTWDG Max 10 64 38 120 25 32 Avg 7.7 41.7 26.7 76.8 16 20.7 Min 5 22 20 47 13 15 ISDG Max 8? 46 34 ? 23? 25? Avg 5.9 31.3 24 ? 15? 14? Min 4 20 11 ? ? 11? CGN ~8 ~46 ~34 ? 25? GWT ~8 ~43 ~32 ? 24? CDG 6 36 24 ~14 11 Apo 6 31 28 21 17 CFC 4 28 21 ~14 12 GCA 4 24 23 ~17 13 GRE 5 22 19 ? ? FIR 6 20 11 ? ?
All of the stats seem a lot lower in the ISDG than the PTWDG. I wonder why this is...

Note that based upon the scores, CGN and GWT could have up to 11 cities, but that is unlikely (GCA is near their score and they only have 4 cities!).

Got spare money?

I believe the other continent is being dominated by peaceful, builder civs. Early cultural improvements will have a large impact on score (as evidenced by GCA) as will having luxes hooked up early. The land grabs that these teams seem to favour (wide spacing when placing cities for maximum potential growth) also boost scores considerably as area is such a large factor in score.

For those reasons, we need not be concerned too much. I have played through 100s of early stages of MP games. The tight spacing and focus on REX and units has never let me down, except when I've been stuck on islands with no resources, no luxes, and no fresh water.

PS. Don't ever let people experiment on you with 'interesting' sounding map options.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Oh, one other thing. Our score has been slowed down a bit by deviating from 'pure' rexing. That is, the production of settlers as fast as the granery cities can build them.

E_T wanted to let the pumps get up to larger size, so they could be more productive all around. I agreed with that direction, and I think it will serve us well in the long run, although it hurt our growth in territory a bit in the short term.
