Damned Corruption!! Zaragoza is still at 9spt! The extra sheild from the mine was stolen by corruption. Perhaps a WLTKD will fix it?

I also doubt that it is an invasion force. To me it seems that it is not very smart to "inform" your enemy of an invasion in this way.
quote: Would a WLTKD in Zaragoza fix our corruption woes? |
WLTKD? A courthouse might help, but if I order to build a courthouse, our only military production city is no longer producing military unit, units that we need.

Should we start rushing projects with this vast surplus of gold? I feel a need to rush our military back into production. |
Not too much. Perhaps a few rushes would help us. I have to take a closer look at the save to give a more detailed advise. I agree but at least partially with Arnelos that we have to keep some cash in the treasury, for unforeseen rushes for instance.
quote: Should we instead rush the weak distant cities to help get them productive sooner? |
I am in doubt about this. The northern cities could use the money well to get better improvements, for instance libraries, that could help us a lot now that we are doing research by ourselves again. But having sooner more productive southern cities will, on the longer term than what I above, be better. We have but to determine with care which city gets a rush for which improvement and when.
quote: I believe we should pack in 1 more city into the south ... south of Sevilla on the hills. Am currently working on an adjusted city plan. |
I don't have any idea of what is good for the cityplan. I'll have a second look at the save. I think I'll await your plan and will perhaps then give my critics.
quote: Assuming the worst, where would you attack Spain? Right now I believe an attack near Toledo is the smartest route. We are dreadfully weak in that region. |
It depends on the strategy that will be used by our enemy:
- A quick stab from behind in the neck of Spain.
Attack at Toledo and conquer southwards. Advantage: you are hitting in an important part of Spain and will thus cause fear. If you manage to conquer Pamplona as second city, you have virtually won the war, but you can also attack Madrid. Disadvantage, the northers area will probabbly be heavily defended
- A stab into the heart of Spain.
Attack at Madrid and conquer westwards to Pamplona.
Advantages: you are hitting in an important part of Spain. You can make a sudden landing and attack by surprise. This causes fear and there is almost guaranteed success. Disadvantage: this part is also relatively well defended.
- A stab into the belly of Spain.
Attack at Barcelona or just under it. Conquer either northwards to Madrid move westwards to attack Pamplona from the south or to attack Salamanca first and then attack Pamplona. Advantage for moving westward: this is the least that is expected and may be successful because of that.
Disadvantage: if you move move westward, it takes quite long before you get near a city. Spain might use that time to mobilize so that when you attack at Pamlona or Salamanca, they are prepared for the worst.
- Climbing up from the legs to stab in the belly.
Attack in the south, at Valencia or Sevilla. Conquer northwards towards Salamanca and finally attack Pamplona, the heart. Advantages: the south might be poorly defended becauste it is a periphere region and will thus be easy to conquer. After this quick success you can prepare for the tougher battles in the north. Disadvantages: it takes long to reach the nothern part of Spain and it costs you units to guard the conquered cities. Conquering solely from the south will result in a long costly war.
These are but a few strategies I could think of. I prefer to do a combinead attack instead of but solely one of these strategies. If I would attack Spain, I would attack at Toledo and then attack Madrid. Just when the Spainish forces are heading nothwards, I would attack Barcelona from the sea by surprise and move westwards with my troops. Because there are no more soldiers, they can move almost unopposed and attack Salamanca when there are big battles in the north. I like this strategy because Spain is FORCED to move its troops northwards because the threat of losing Toledo is too big. I prefer Toledo over Madrid because the Spanish troops ae then as much northward as possible and thus the chance that my southern operation will succeed is at its maximum.
