What is CDG up to? Discuss... Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

CDG, on the first turn of their war with Gamecatcher, has sent Gamecatcher an unsigned peace offer (in-game, no mention out of game) according to Gamecatcher.

Theories discussed in chat about what CDG might be up to:

1. It's just a ploy to see if Gamecatcher won't attack CDG's stack before it reaches striking distance from Gamecatcher's capital.

2. CDG entered the war solely for the purpose of starting their Golden Age.
- 2a. They intend to pull back and use the GA to REX.
- 2b. They intend to pull back and use the GA to build up their forces before attempting a larger invasion of Gamecatcher.
- 2c. They intend to pull back and use the GA to build up their forces and go for their "one last chance" of defeating Apolyton.

3. The entire CDG-Gamecatcher "war" is merely a ruse designed to start CDG's Golden Age while Gamecatcher defeats CFC and CDG has a chance to build up and take out Apolyton.
(variation: either this was the original plan between CDG and Gamecatcher that fell apart and they recently decided to put it back together or the whole war has been a ruse all along).

What do you think?

No offense, but I think "think" and "hunch" is all we have to answer these questions, and going too far in such a discussion might actually be counterproductive, because we might start assuming some of our hunches are fact.

The answer is: We really don't know, and we should watch our arse the same anyhow.

Tired of ads?

See, that's just the thing... I don't even have a hunch toward any of these options... they're all possible and some are more likely than others (I guess), but I really don't have a clue which one is right

So I'm just sorta wondering what others are thinking about it.

Not really. Seems it happened every once in a while in the old SPDG The worst were cross-threads for discussing chat times.

4. Upon invading they realized they don't have the advantage they thought they had prior to crossing the border, and have decided to pull back. Perhaps GCA has a stronger force in the region than we had been lead to believe?

4b. Perhaps something (GCA propaganda, something we said, just plain old fashioned paranoi...justified in this case) has put the fear of 'Poly back into them, and they have pulled back out of fear for their flank.

5. They plan to follow up the in game offer of peace with out of the game demands (such as an end to the CFC war, or handing over of key cities)

6. They are just trying to keep us off balance (counting on GCA telling us they offered peace) to give us pause about invading their unguarded rear.

We really have no way of knowing and any guess is as good as another at this point. In any case, all we can do is keep preparing for a defensive war against a GA enhanced stack of immortals that may come. If they really end up making peace with GCA over the next few turns and going home, then I think we have to assume that there is a very large chance that they do plan to come our way. They aren't going home to build granaries in their GA, and they couldn't possibly get a better chance to hit GCA than now, so if they go home it almost has to mean they intend to come our way.

I think it's just a very cheap ploy to see if Gamecatcher won't attack CDG's stack before it reaches striking distance from Gamecatcher's capital.

Of course it probably won't work, but CDG loses nothing in trying it.

These are the two things I believe are most likely, given what we know so far about CDG & GCA and the personalities of the teams.

1) It's a surrender offer by CDG to GC. They will give peace if GC gives the cities/gold/etc demanded by CDG. It's CDG way to bargain/negotiate an easy win to the war and then enjoy their GA. However, if they're dumb enough (and they tend to be) they will demand too much from GC who will refuse and will keep fighting. If CDG gets some brains and makes a very simple demand (a city GC would lose anyhow) they could quickly win the war, and then enjoy their GA for building and expanding and facing off with us.

Bottom line, we should discourage any early peace between these two.

2) It's a ruse, CDG pretends to want peace ... for whatever lame reason and is just trying to keep GC from attacking their stack which is marching towards Catchopolis.

I tend to agree with Togas, but if they do accept a "white peace" and turn around and go home without so much as a 2nd battle, then we have to assume they are coming our way.

Also if it was a ruse, wouldn't it be better to let us think the war is still raging and then cross our border out of the blue?
