What Asher said...

The claws are actually still in the cat. They just can't expose them...

Not true with a tenectomy.

That's why you should get a cat. If you did that sh*t you'd be locked up. But the cat can do it for you...

Tendonectomy's are more humane, I suppose, but you still have to clip the cat's nails and teach it not to claw furniture, as it can still do damage.

Maybe it's more common in Canada, but in the U.S. declawing is still much more common.

I'd rather hear birds chirping outside in the morning.

It's much more pleasant sound than crappy purring.

Well, s/he probably doesn't want to burden average pet owners with polysyllabic words like "tendonectomy."

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Cats evolved to be excellent hunters. Don't blame them for being so efficient. Cats aren't evil, they're cute and lovable (unless you're a bird).

I'm thinking of getting a cat. My first cat, Babs died a couple of years ago and I haven't really felt like replacing her until recently. One reason is that my girlfriend is mildly allergic to cat dander, though she managed to deal with Babs.

My garden could certainly use a dedicated carnivore to keep the birds from eating all of my cherries and strawberries. I've been considering getting a bengal, ( http://www.bengalcat.com/ ) which is a cross between a house cat and an asian tree leopard. They are beautiful, and their slightly wilder bloodline would be a nice deterrent for those winged fruit thieves. Does anyone have any personal experience with these cats? If so, I'm wondering what sort of temperment they have.

I have 2 brother cats. Tango and Cash.

One is fairly antisocial with everyone except me and, to a lesser extent, my wife.

The other(Tango) is outgoing and playful. It taught me how to play fetch with 20 oz. soda caps.

ACK!

Adopt older cats from no-kill shelters. Older kitties need homes too! If I weren't allergic to cats, I'd have a zillion of them.

I thought the same thing after I posted. I'm getting much more into "just buy it". Will you start a thread for me asking what kind I should get? I'm reasonably price insensative. But not a photophile either.
