Recalling that "when you pirate mp3s, you're downloading communism" poster that I came across some time ago, here's a response to the latest proposals by the RIAA and the US govt to hack into people's computers and destroy data and equipment.

America's had some pretty bad propaganda. There's the WWII stuff with the posters that said, "If you're driving alone, you're driving with Hitler." It was part of a movement to get more carpoolers, fewer cars, less oil in the hands of the consumers. That, of course, puts more oil in the hands of the military.

Does this whole RIAA thing remind you of the fuss they (or relations) kicked up in the 80's about VCR's??

The whole file sharing thing, its simply a new technology, and a new way of using it. They cant beat it, if they fight it, they will be defeated by it, thus they have to adapt.

Its simply an environmental factor affecting their potential market, so its not stealing from them, as stealing requires loss of material on their part. If they cant adapt to changes in the market, like all business can and should, then they will die out. Its called evolution, and they should spend less effort fighting it and more adapting to it.

Rant over.

Can you give a link to the original communist poster? BTW, the internet is inherently communist, I dont see their point .

Yeah the 500 post count is annoying, especially since stuff in Off Topic doesn't count for anything.

Yep, it does sound a whole lot like the original VCR thing, or Betamax, as that was the gadget that actually triggered the whole thing.

Funny thing is that Sony, which was back then being sued by the MPAA, is now part of it.

go to google image search, type in mp3 communism, and it'll bring up the poster.

There's some kind of a ****ing war inside Sony. The actual parts and engineering division hates the content division and vice versa.

If so first as it was noticed above if i share i upload. Second: downloading terrorism is good because if all the terrorism is on your comp less terrorism will be in the real world It looks like the author of "if you..." is native English speaker, because for me the sentence sounds as pro-piracy.

P.S: even if "if you share..." is joke, "if you MP3..." still appears to be stupid. Downloaded communism on my comp is better than communism in the govt.

speaking of pron, the funny thing is that the pron industry has learned to profit from file sharing by using it as a means of advertising for its newer and higher quality products. Then again, their business model is quite different from the standard film industry's. While a typical pron company will pump out hundreds if not thousands of titles a year, a major studio only puts out a handful of big budget films. Why? Because in pron, people demand specialization over spectacle. This may be the future trend of the movie industry, more films, each with a smaller budget.

Smiley, you're comparison between pron and hollywood is too simplistic. Hollywood used to pump out film after film during it's "Golden Era." But Star Wars came out and the film industry found merchandizing and tie-ins which would be hard for the pron industry to duplicate.

Anyway, that's just one of many reasons between the differences between Hollywood films and pron films...and I don't see Hollywood returning to it's "Golden Era" marketing any time soon.
