Hong Kong Democrats Victorious... Got spare money?

Basically, they've put the fork in the commie Beijing-appointed governor and the commie anti-subversion law dictated by Beijing. 500,000 demonstrated out of a total population of 7 million.

Rock on!

Put an end to popups!

Well, at least they know what it isn't--i.e., bad laws dictated from the out of touch commies in Beijing.

How could they be bad laws if both the Brits and the so called "Democrats" gave their approval?

The boys in Peking and I mean Peking may still have the last vote.
Don't be surprise if they excised that vote and whack a few thousand heads.

The Party is trying to make Hongo Kong inot a model to show they can be nice. So they had to back down. Too bad such an attept anywhere else in China would not be recieved as passively by the Party.

I hope to god that someday Hong Kong will become seperate from China. China seems to be unable to break it's dictatorial history, and the citizens of Hong Kong should not have to endure what the citizens of China have had to endure for years.

Of course, I also advocate the liberation of China as well.

No, but all the highest officials were Brits, and all the rules were either made in Whitehall or in the British Parliament.

Things got steadily better since the '80s, but Patten screwed us up bad.

I mean as an independant political entity with its own government structure and democracy.

Well, Hong Kong was a dominion. The US does it to Hawaii. France does it to Corsica. New Zealand did it to Samoa.

Why is Hong Kong any different?

Tassadar: I returned from Hong Kong two weeks ago after a week there, and I must admit some of the buildings there are pretty modern, and put shame to those pictures there.

However, it has to be impressed that a lot of the buildings from British periods are somewhat "shoddy".

Most the buildings from post-Britain are most flash indeed (I point out in particular the airport and the Mass Transit System). The hotel I was in (Holiday Inn, Downtown Hong Kong) was next to a place called Chungking House. It was the most derilect building I had ever seen in a metropolis, and no effort what so ever had been made to restore it.

I realise Hong Kong is a S.A.R. to Beijing, but killing non-Chinese history like that was quite shocking, to say the least.

I'll post some pictures of my visit to HK soon.

But I must tell Tassadar those buildings above were all made from bamboo scaffolding.

Go figure.

Right. This one is taken from mainland Hong Kong, on the way to the airport.

If you look in the middle of the photo, across the sea, you can see Tassadar's building, dwarfed by the surrounding ones.
