Today I walked around Venice beach all day, talking to the people I thought I knew and seeing the things I've seen a thousand million times.
And everything pretty much looked like it was in the same place, but none of it looked the way I remembered it.
The weirdest thing kept happening, too. I kept asking myself if I'd shaved that day, and then I'd check to see how bad the stubble was getting. Then I realised that 1) I'm not a post-pubescent guy, and I've never shaved any part of my face (except by accident - too much momentum and asphalt and not enough skin).
2) I would never worry about shaving anything that much anyway, because some hair's gotta be there for some reason, right?
3) Everything seemed much shorter than I remember it - almost as if I'd been wearing 12" platform shoes. I'm pretty short (at least according to the Vogue or Elle Standard), so this came as a bit of a surprise.
The only person who seemed familiar was Tyler Durden, but I can't imagine why. Maybe I've been reading too many books.
I used to think I was the worst driver of all time, being both Asian and female at the SAME TIME. But no, I can honestly say that I've let someone drive my car who was much worse, and they were as diametrically opposed to 'Asian female' as a dog would be to, say, a spatula.
So I guess all that sun musta addled my little sweetbreads, because I was toasted by the time I got home.
How about you?

And READ 'Fight Club'? Man, I made that story up years ago, to define my own inner turmoil. In fact, I'm still the grand champ at kicking my OWN ass.
I've had a lot of practice, and having grown up in a predominantly white neighbourhood, I kindly 'volunteered' to be the local kicking target.
So not only am I great at getting my ass kicked, I'm even better at the task myself!
I don't talk about Fight Club unless someone REALLY knows what they're talking ABOUT, and it's not about Brad Pitt's cocky smile or Helena's 'I haven't been fvcked like that since grade school' comment. Not even REMOTELY.

That would be the first concern anyone's ever had for me.
That's why I talk to you guys - my real family would have just told me to shut up by now.
Anyway, somebody else wrote the book, and somebody else directed the movie and somebody else wrote the screenplay, so in the end it wasn't anything like I'd pictured it to be.
That's the biggest problem with movies which are based on books: they never get anything right, in a desperate attempt to get everything the way someone thought it ought to be. Unfortunately, they never ask the right someone's opinion.
I always wondered if maybe Carrottop and Pauly Shore were just born into serious old money, because I don't think they're funny, and seeing them makes me want to punch them in the head. And I'd do it, too, but then they'd sue me for everything I haven't got.

Thank you, oh thank you. But will you still come to bail me out of jail?!?
Sometimes I feel like I'm having someone else's memories. But that's only if I haven't been sleeping well. I think that's because all the stuff that you're supposed to dream invades the waking world and spits in your shoe.

Yeah, tell me about it. I've only got the one pair of shoes.
