Family Guy reruns on Cartoon Network meaking Leno and Letterman sweat! Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

It's TRUE!

http://www.msnbc.com/news/934647.asp

quote:
July 14 issue — For 10 years, the late-night TV battle has raged between Jay Leno and David Letterman, but at the moment, both of them are getting whipped by a toy-factory worker from Rhode Island named Peter Griffin. (You didn’t think we meant Jimmy Kimmel, did you?)

GRIFFIN IS THE star of “The Family Guy,” an animated series that lasted just 49 episodes on Fox but has been reborn as a cult hit on Cartoon Network. The show—a bitingly funny send up of family sitcoms featuring a moronic patriarch, a talking dog and a diabolical, British-accented infant boy—is drawing 1 million viewers per episode—topping Leno and Letterman among 18- to 34-year-old men. “I’m not surprised,” says Cartoon Network senior vice president Mike Lazzo. “This was one of the few programming no-brainers I’ve ever had.”

It wasn’t so clear cut for Fox, which kept switching “The Family Guy’s” time slot before finally canceling it last year. By then, the show had amassed a small army of loyalists who’d come to adore creator Seth MacFarlane’s taste for obscure pop-culture references, like the Crest Cavity Creeps and the Kool-Aid Man. (You remember—the giant glass pitcher that jumps through walls and yells, “Oh, yeah!” Ah, good times.) The show is now the linchpin of the Cartoon Network’s daily “Adult Swim” TV block, and fans have rewarded the move by making it the highest-rated show in the channel’s history.

Here’s more good news for “Family Guy” fans. During the show’s tenure on Fox, MacFarlane’s team actually made 50 episodes—one never aired because it was deemed “too controversial” for advertisers. Cartoon Network hopes to air it during the next rerun cycle, which begins on Monday. The taboo subject: religion. Chances are, it’s the last new episode we’ll get. Lazzo is still trying to relaunch the show, but creator MacFarlane is currently tied up producing a new series. Somewhere the Kool-Aid Man is weeping.

Stupid Fox... Matt Groening also said that 'Futurama' is doing BETTER at 11:00 (before 'Family Guy') than it did at Fox!

Got spare money?

More evidence that FOX are programming idiots. If it hadn't been for Married...With Children and The Simpsons, the channel would be kaput today.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

If you add 'American Idol' to that list, I agree with you fully.

When both Futurama AND Family Guy which Fox both, but juggled around so much that it never really settled in, had are outperforming Leno and Letterman in the most important demographic, you know they totally f'ed up.

Hell, they almost killed King of the Hill that way, did kill Andy Richter and Firefly (which had a pretty decent fan following) the exact same way as well.

'American Idol' is too recent to count. FOX built itself on the above two shows almost entirely, with a bit of help from In Living Color and Beverly Hills 90210. The Simpsons fell into their lap as an offshoot of the not-nearly-as-good Tracey Ullman show and did more than perhaps any other show to raise their profile and viewship. Without MWC and Simpsons, Fox wouldn't have survived long as a significant player. They'd probably be were UPN and WB are today, at best.

Family guy was mediocre... it made me chuckle, but not enough to waste effort to go out of my way to watch it.

I loved Family Guy from when it first came out, but Fox can't ****ing let a good thing stay ****ing good can it? The epis were jumping all over the place. Jesus, it's like they were deciding the schedule right after a beer-drinking contest.

Imagine how much they are kicking themselves now. I imagine they'll do the same thing with either Oliver Beene or Malcom in the Middle too.

However, the lesson is very clear: Animators, do not let your cartoons grow up to be on FOX

I already know this, what do you think I've been watching at 11:30. I even made a drunken thread about it.

I used to watch Leno- I hate missing headlines. But family guy takes precedence.

an episode a few nights ago.

Peter is forced to go to a women's retreat to improve his attitudes towards women. He then startes blaming men for all the violence and crime in the world.

His black friend (can't remember his name) wants to get Peter amongst men to get him back to normal, so he brings Peter to the million man march.

Peter then funnily pushes Jesse Jackson off the stage and goes into a rant "all of you are responsible for the violence and crime in the world" to an audience that is nearly 100% black

next scene shows an overhead shot of one white guy running down a city street with 1 million black guys chasing him

It's hard to describe. It's funnier when you see it.

Adult Swim is the best thing to happen to TV, ever. Especially with their new minimalistic promos/cards they run going to and from commercials.

I cannot wait for the AS panel at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con. There's going to be lots of people that work on it there and it should be excellent.

Sure, Fox cancelled them. Fox also put them on in the first place.

What other network has been willing to do that?

(resurrections don't count, I'm talking first run and non-pay here)

In partial defense of Fox, a major potion of the ratings success is probably due the shows being stripped five nights a week.

This is not to say that putting Futurama on a 7pm and then preempting it most of the time for football was a good idea though.

Well it doesn't seem to matter when you are so incompetent in scheduling that you kill them early. There are a bunch of shows that died on Fox that could have had greater followings if they simply stuck to a date and time!

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Fox should just go ahead and do the right thing and just start running "Worst Driving," "When Heartwarming Surgeries Go Bad," and stuff like that 24/7. It seems to be the thing they're best at (being mocked at.).
