Narrative is great. Depp had perfect voice when he did it. Apparently he spent a bunch of time with Thompson before filming (whihc only took 50 odd days)

EDIT: and Asher: I think so. Can't remember right now. Sort of well lubricaterd

Well, that's a fantastic critique of Brazil.

**************************

As for Brazil comparing to Fear & Loathing:

I love both, but the grander scale and general awesomeness of Brazil just put it over the top. Plus DeNiro and Pryce. Golden.

Hmm, I have found most of these movies acceptable: I can;t think of any myself.

I would recommend people go see sexy beasts and beautiful creatures, not becuase they are underrated, but becuase they were just good (but did not have wide release, since they are indy brit picks)

Sexy Beast was a bit of a disappointment for me, but that's only because it got really good reviews. If I had merely stumbeled across it I would have been more excited about it.

Freeway. This is the movie that got me into Reese Witherspoon. I have fallen in love with her. . It's kind of cheesy in parts, but Reese saves this movie. I love her and want her to bear my children. Whatever you do, avoid freeway2.

Election. Another underrated Reese film. Kind of a dark ending, but I liked it.

Being John Malkovich. While I didn't like it that much, it still was a good film that doesn't get much praise.

12 Monkeys- well it has some success, but I still feel it is underrated.

Waterworld : I'm not saying that it's Kubrickesque, but it's good fun

PCU : Quite an entertaining ride, great quotable material within

Mallrats : How anybody can find this unfunny or a bad movie truely escapes me.

Willow : A great sword action flick, with some damn good parts, very entertaining and draws you into its world.

A Better Place: Learn about it here . Only found out about it through my friend who bought it at the Jay and Silent Bob store in NJ. It's an independent film, and it is one of the most provocative, thoughtful movies I have seen. I always recommend it.

And finally, The Iron Giant: Quite simply a beautiful animated movie, a beautiful work of art.

Yeah, the first one was great... while the second one failed from the beginning, since the best character died at the beginning...

Those movies I think is underrated:

Undercover Blues: It's got some really funny things all over the movie (Seing a guy with a baby in his arms, kicking the s*** out of two thiefs is very funny... the way it's done)

Bill & Teds bogus Journey/Amazing Adventure: Both those Bill & Ted movies are great, too bad nobody has ever seen them.. or that's at least what it feels like... (Too bad Keanu Reeves haven't done any good movies since those two)

Kickboxer 2 - 4: Even though I haven't seen them in english yet, they are still very good martial arts movies

My pick for 3 underrated films in no particular order

Heat- Rated well, but deserved yet more kudos. A really emotive film.
Boondock Saints - Critics just didn't get the self effacement. Figure out that the film isn't trying to take itself seriously and you can comprehend the film.
Chopper- The shock value blinkered the critics. We watched it at Christmas. It's masterfully executed (no pun intended.)

Series Seven - The Contender rules!
Following - Christopher Nolan's other movie; like memento but better
Equilibrium - Not better than the Matriz but pretty damn good
Reign of Fire - Dragons!
The Evil Dead Trilogy - Big cult classic but should be required coursework for film students
Mindwarp - You can never have too much Bruce Campbell on any movie list

Put an end to popups!

Here's some that haven't been mentioned:

King of Hearts
Stone Boy
They Might be Giants
French Kiss
American President
A Thousand Clowns
Fistful of Dollars

Interesting phenomenon:
I loved Brazil on the big screen but hated it on small screen.
I hated The Fifth Element on the big screen but loved it on the small screen.

Thirteen Days- It never quite got any attention, but IMO... good All the players in the Kennedy admin were casted and acted well. It was easy to feel the emotions surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I agree.

I'd add October Sky to that as well.

I really like the Fifth Element. It's a good 'ole Bruce Willis shoot 'em up in space. Super Green.

I also thought 12 Monkeys was cool (hell, I own it), but I think that one got decent recognition.

For a second, I thought you were talking about the actors who played Bill and Ted. I was going to mention a little flick known as Matrix, but then I realized you were refering to the Bill and Ted movies and not the actors.

Blade Runner
That's a classic. Sean Young is gorgeous and very good in this movie and Harisson Ford gives as good a peformance as he ever has or would.
This is one SF movie that has aged very well IMO, except for the music score which is definitely too 80's. It's still pretty good but they'd have to remix it a bit.
Other than that, it's a great movie, beautifully shot, with a great story.

If by boring you mean exciting and awesome, then yes.

AI--I've said this before, but since we're talking about this movie again, here goes.

I loved that movie. I mean, really, really loved. As I sat in the movie theatre anticipating the closing credits, I thought--"not only the best scifi movie ever, but one of the best five films I've ever seen." Everything--the acting, the direction, the script, just perfect.

But, sadly, while I was thinking this, anticipating the closing credits, the image on-screen was a slow pull-back from David pleading to the Blue Fairy on the bottom of the ocean. At that time, I did not know that I had another twenty minutes ahead of me, which would absolutely ruin the entire film. If ever a film called for a "Director's Cut" that eliminated parts of the film, rather than added it, AI is that film.

I'd also like to put a vote in for Kentucky Fried Movie. "But how do I use zinc oxide?"

Nick of Time is an extremely gripping little yarn, several years before TV saw the rise of "24".

I never miss Almost Perfect when it's on HBO.
