First of all, kudos to Imran for the Royal Tenenbaums and The Big Lebowski nods. Awesome movies, both.
Underrated movies:
Punch-Drunk Love: Sure, it was acclaimed... but not acclaimed enough .
Brazil Why can no one else see that this is probably the best movie of all time? Except for maybe Rushmore , which I won't put on this list, because lots of people recognize its fantasticity.
A.I. A beautiful film that received an undeserved backlash. Seeing it in theatres is one of my favourite moviegoing experiences. How can everyone love Minority Report , and not this? This was so, so much better.
Beetlejuice Remember how great Burton used to be? I love this movie too much.
Bottle Rocket Sure, it's no Tenenbaums or Rushmore, but it's still a heckuva fun movie.
Zoolander Funniest movie in the last 10 years, probably. Too good.
Eh, that's enough for now.

I agree, especially about Lebowski.

I haven't seen it, but I'd like to have a blanket party with Adam Sandler as the guest of honor.

Brazil isn't even in the top half of Gilliam's movies IMO. I liked Munchausen and Fear and Loathing much better, as well as Time Bandits. I loved Rushmore though.

My best friend is a writer in Hollywood. He says the best way to get into an argument last year in Hollywood was to simply bring up the subject of AI. About half of the people there hated Spielberg's contribution to the film, and about half think the whole thing is brilliant. I didn't see it. I'm torn between seeing a film made by one of the greatest directors of all time and seeing a film finished by one of the greatest schlockmeisters of all time. I like the cast, so I'll probably rent it eventually. I didn't see Minority Report, but I avoid Tom Cruise when possible, even though he's getting the slightest bit cooler by appearing in Magnolia and Austin Powers.

This was the movie that started me hating Burton, this and Batman.

A great movie when you consider the budget especially.

I liked Zoolander, and saw it twice. It is funny, but it doesn't rank up there on any list of the greats IMO. I liked Meet the Parents better actually.

The funny thing is, I'm a big Cruise fan (don't hurt me). And I still was thoroughly unimpressed by Minority Report. I did like Vanilla Sky quite a bit, though.
Which reminds me to make an addition to my list:
Almost Famous : Sentimental? You betcha. But still a wonderful movie that I enjoy everytime I watch it. Billy Crudup and Jason Lee are great, and no one can touch Hoffman.

Meet The Parents was all right, but it's no Zoolander to me. I should say, though, that I may have used hyperbole before... Wet Hot American Summer may actually be the funniest movie of the last ten years for me.

See, I know that Spielberg puts out some schlock (some of it enjoyable; see Jurassic Park), but I don't know if he qualifies as a meister. I think Schindler's List is very well done, and Saving Private Ryan is a flawed but still admirable effort.
And A.I. is perfect.
