A call for premade maps in tribe games Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

I really think premade maps should be used in tribe games. Going back over the years looking at our tribe games shows the need for it. Even our game against the Illuminati way back when, Elk started on an island. The illuminati were screwed from the start. Our tribe game against Europa, the game was over at 3600BC when kaak took A-Team's capital. STart position is one of the deciding factors in a tribe game and there really is no reason it should be. So I propose premade maps where both teams have their own land mass with all 2 or 3 of them on it. Or everyone starts on their own island. Just something to make it more even. In a duel it doesn't matter, nobody gets screwed, but when you have 6 people on a map someone will get shafted. Especially if proper map settings aren't used.

Something.
I don't want to have to be concerned about custom maps made by someone insisting they host, or they don't play.

Put a sock in it slowhand.

Premade maps are a must, before with 6 players someone is bound to get screwed. And as you saw you never heard the end of the whining.

Can it Markus. You weren't even there, but you can keep hoping it just goes away.
Did you see the post of Kujo's, before IT "went away"? In YOUR thread?

I will provide a premade map to any tribes who set out a basic outline of what they'd like...size, climate, start next to allies, start next to enemies, etc...........

Give me at least 3 days before if possible, otherwise its just pot luck if you catch me on line.

This way perhaps the map can retain its randomness.....you still have to be pretty trusting of the host, at least I will be able to tell you if they changed anything.....

Finally , Eyes says something that makes sense. And Frank could keep the map secret till the game started so it would still be unkown to all players.
Now, lets work on something like this for regular league games.

All it should require is picking a random map when loading the game.
Even if you customize, not "create", it's not a biggie.
As long as you tell what you've done.
One shouldn't have to solicit that information.

I would really like it A-Team if you didn't agree with me on this. Your support only hurts our position. Only tribe games should be premade, not every single game. God damn you're a moron. And I think I'd rather have cavebear make the maps. He knows more about that stuff.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

How does this sound?

A randomly generated, small, normal land, contients, warm, wet, 4 billion world, resulting in 1 large contient. A flat world prevents early triream backstabs. Starting locations have at least 2 specials w/ river, or more specials and/or river. Starting locations for first 3 colors, (white, green, dark blue) set up on one side, while the other 3 (light blue, yellow, orange) set up on the other. Purple starts on artic in hopes tribes will remember to choose tribes correctly to start near their allies. Start closer to allies than enemies, however the enemy could be as little as 20 spaces away, so you can't be complacent either. Two "land bridges" connect opposing sides, with favorable defensive terrian. A large interior sea, and north and south pole chanels suggests, naval flanking of positions, and sneak attacks by sea.

This could be a favorable genre of maps for tribe matches.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

No.NO.No.

Lots of small islands, 2 big conts. and med map. To play on an all land map is sickingly boring and does not explore all the facets civ has to offer. Not to mention the fact that the land wonders become much too powerfull and very hard to counter. The increament of water on the board should lead to a more fair, interesting and diverse game.
Besides, small maps do not produce good games with 2 players and even worse games with 4 players or more.
I am the foremost expert on board design in game league. If you need some models to base these maps on , Frank, I would be happy to send them to you.

And temperate produces bad boards empty of resources. Wet,warm prodces goo boards. Alo with med maps nd small land , 5 billion produces very many special resorces. Also, another tool for generating boards is the use of the resource seeding option which allows you to input a five digit # to change the resource allotment.

Civ Fanatics Ladder has now 3 months of experience with creating premade maps for MP, including 4 player and 6 player maps. We would be glad to assist with suggestions or maps. These maps are not played much in our ladder, and its a shame they are going to waste, let me know if you're interested.

For me personally, i dont like premade maps in tribe games, i like the unexpected.

Frank's trying to come up with a way to keep people from screwing you with custom maps.
Death penalty isn't acceptable to him, which is my vote.
It would sure be a lot easier, and more dependable.

a-team you are wrong, temperate grants good maps especially combined with wet and 4billion. while 3billion only generates flat worlds either without mountains or with mountain clusters, 4billion spreads now and then some ridges with gold/iron in. temperate, though it doesnīt directly provide special ressources, makes nice grass lands (with large riversystems if combined with wet). this combination is both a good simluation of the real world (geomorphologicly) and a nice board to play on as it is rough enough for building up defences before the horsies come along and flat enough for connecting your cities to an empire later on (historicly).
5billion on the other hand grants many special ressources but the terrain is extremly rough and your empire is reduced to city-states - combined with medium or even small landmass on a med-(island)-board LH will ever win. man, this isnīt your favorite strat, strate?

Weird god , you really got to get off your small map boards. On a med board, 5 billion breaks up the board into different conts and seeds the map with many special resources. IT DOES NOT MAKE THE BOARD UNDUELY ROUGH AND UGLY. I have set up literaly 100's of different maps using med, small, wet , warm and 5 billion. If you dont believe me, sit down for 2 or 3 hours like i did and make 50-100 maps and you will see that they are really cool.

i tried myself and must commit you are right. i donīt know why because the manual says the "older" the board the more varied the terrain, but it seems the size of the map has a huge effect. 5billion on med-maps looks good, very good - almost like 4billion on small-maps which i prefer. however, small 5billion-maps are ugly and mountain-infested.

Yes. I have been known to use the light house to some degree of sucess . However, in a team game, with the tribemates in contact from beging of the game and the fact that only 1 civ gets lighthouse benifits and navigation will come quicker as will magelleons wich is even more powerfull then Lh. And LH can be made obsolete by magnatism.

itīs now your turn to try my settings (with large landmass which i forgot) on small maps - as i said they look like yours on the med-map. maybe we get a game without a long setting-dicussion started.

I don't know why you guys are arguing about map settings. It's not as if one of you is going to get hired to make the maps, nor is there going to be a set setting. The players in the participating game will make the map. Cavebear tell these morons to shut up and I would like to see a few of the maps you have.

Aw do I sense a little bitterness? Hehehe...fact is, I don't care what sort of map any 2 tribes may desire and agree on, all I know is from trying last night, its hard as hell to get a random small map make 2 contients the same size, you either get one big one and one small one, or one huge one.

Anyway, point is we should define a certain types of maps. Some maps will be harder to make than others, just due to the nature of the stupid generator. Other maps just require a little tinkering, and others just need fair starting locations set.

But from what I've seen some of the requested types of maps would be have to be hand made square by square. Also, maps with many islands tends to slow the game lot, bad for tribe games, all that maps should do is make sure no one gets unluckily slammed, even though a purist might argue its there job to hold them off long enough to give your other alliess an advantage...and thats just part of tribes.

I'm just here to help any tribes who want a map you know is fair and no one else has seen yet.
