You've obviously overlooked something. That quote, once heard, has always stuck with me.
This is a "Doomsday thread."
Admittedly, things look VERY, VERY promising for us right now- the only bumps being that GCA leader and the war weariness situation.
In chess (and in many other games, including my own strategies for MP Civ) if things look very good, I ask myself a question:
"What, within reason, would be the worst possible thing that could happen right now, and how can I prepare for it, again within reason?"
It would be very easy to say "Oh, well, everyone declares war on us and ignores each other" but that's not 'within reason.' Let's begin to look for 'holes.' Things we might have overlooked. If YOU were the guy in each civ in charge of taking down 'poly, how would YOU do it?
Now, how can we guard against that within reason? Surprise attacks are called that because they're unexpected. If CDG showed up with a stack of 10 immortals on our border NEXT TURN, how would we respond? That's just an example- remember, others are capable of 'flying under the radar' too.
We're doing very well and things look great- and GCA probably thinks that too. One of us is wrong; let's set our egos and confidence aside for a moment and make sure who is wrong, isn't us.
We're not being forced to stretch our noodles right now. So let's put ourselves through a few drills and be ready, in case we've missed something (no, I don't know how we could have missed something either, but you never DO know, do you?) and Doomsday really does come knocking.
Your mission is to beat Apolyton. Figure out how. Then let's figure out how to stop it.
