A Fox tv newsmagazine show is airing a segment about first cousins who marry.

It's about halfway down. There isn't much information yet, because the show hasn't aired yet. It will be on tomorrow. But my local news ran a segment showing a couple of first cousins who married. I think the number they ran, was about 2500 first cousins get married in the U.S. each year.

So, would you do it?

to be honest, i've only met my first cousins on my mother's side (and i couldn't recognize even them in a crowd) and i've never seen or anything my cousins on my father's side so i really could end up marrying my cousin and not know it.

on the question: no. Definetly. One obvious reason is that one of them is male, and the two girls, one of them is married... the other got killed in a car crash.... sigh...

SInce this is a very entertaining thread remember this There are numerous European Royalty running around who descended from marrying cousins. Have you ever noticed how the Last Czar Looks exactly like his cousin the King Of England ( of the same time period)

I actually did have sex with two of my distant cousins when I was a teenager. They were both daughters of my mother's cousins. I'm not sure what the official term for that type of cousin (aside from kissing cousin) is, but I do know that the only laws we were breaking were the ones against people our age having sex. The only common ancestors we had were 2 of our 8 great-grandparents.

Yea!

Well there have been times when I wished that I hadn't become sexually active at such a young age (13). Then I ask myself the "if I had it to do over again" question, and I can't decide. On the one hand I might have matured more effectively and developed more realistic relationships in my early adulthood. On the other hand, I had sex with several very hot 13-16 year old girls with absolutely no fear of legal reprecussions or VD. Tough call.

and just because you marry your first cousin doesn't mean you have to have children with them. The news article didn't mention any children. I didn't see the Fox tv special- Fox's news magazine is not very good, plus I was working.

People can have sex and not have babies ya know

As for whether I'd do it. Hell yes I would . If I had a relationships with a girl, and then later found out she was my first cousin, I wouldn't break it off because of that. I wouldn't have children with them of course. But I would never intentionally pursue my first cousin. Our family's probably wouldn't like that.

Aside from fairly regular regressions, never. I look at it these days from an advice perspective. If my nephew asked me for some manly non-parental advice in similar circumstances what would my answer be? I think I would advise him to wait a bit and try to have his first sexual experience be with someone who wasn't massively sexually abused, but capable of carrying on some sort of relationship. I went the way of the sex addict, and compounded that error many times for about 20 years. It's who I am, and I don't live constantly with regret. But we all serve as examples to people around us whether we are aware of it or not. I'd rather people didn't make the same mistakes that I have, there's really no need for it.
