Same thing, Sava.
To tolerate one's opinion is to have respect for their right.
Otherwise, I'd just dust your young ass.

Not in my area ... I had DSL and it sucked hardcore. 768k download speed... at maximum. It would go offline for long stretches as well. My cable has a 2.1megabit download speed and never goes down. SDSL is better than cable, but it's mega-expensive. The Cable vs DSL debate is a subjective one. It depends on where you live and what kind you have.

Sava, i could not get your link to work. Here is the one I used:

http://www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/t/t0253100.html

But more to the point. I guess I was talking about your lack of respect for others to have the beliefs they desire simply because you disagree with them. In looking at my original post it does look as if I was seeking respect for the belief itsself. Please accept the correction.

just a little mixup... I respect the individual, but not the belief itself. I can come off quite offensive at times, and I'm sure I'll make a mistake or utter something personal to someone, but I must admit I'm human. When someone calls me on a mistake, I have no bones about accepting and apologizing. My attack on the belief might seem vindictive at times, but rest assured, it's not personal. Much of my family is deeply religious, as well as some of my closest friends. They know me well enough to know when I'm just blowing crap out of my mouth.

1984 isn't really necessary reading. Brave New World is a lot more relevant, passionately written, groundbreaking, and hell, you can just watch "Brazil" and get what the jist of 1984 is all about, save yourself some reading.

"Animal Farm" - Orwell

"The Devil's Dictionary" - Ambrose Bierce

All religious texts - Bible, Torah, Koran, Bhagavad Gita, etc. These books contain (at the very least) worldly wisdom, and since each religion has millions of adherents and has a profound effect on the world, you should know why believers believe what they believe. Whether you're a mono/polytheist, atheist, or agnostic, the great religious texts are essential.

"The Origin of Species" - Darwin

"The Demon-Haunted World: Science As a Candle in the Dark" - Carl Sagan. Includes a terrific list of logical errors, fallacies, and inconsistencies often erroneously used to 'prove' points that are false.

I agree. It would be terribly ignorant to dismiss religion without knowing why or being able to use fundie's own scripture against them

Both of these are classified as non-fiction - read them and decide for yourselves.

Animal Farm should be removed... it's nothing but a straightforward critique towards USSR during Stalin's reign.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley should be added instead.
