The 9-11 Timeline: A collection of evidence... Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Let me first say that I am not taking the position that Dubya was responsible for 9-11, or that there was a grand conspiracy. This is a collection of information from major mainstream media sources, official US documents, interviews with US officials, and official foreign government reports.

http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline/

This link leads to a 200 page collection of information which details everything related to 9-11, from 1979-present. It's very long, but a good read (although I'm not quite finished yet ).

http://www.wanttoknow.info/9-11cover-up10pg

This link is a smaller collection of information related to 9-11. It's roughly 10 standard pages and a very easy read. ** PLEASE READ THIS **

I'll post some bits and pieces so even the lazy can participate.
quote:
Jan 2001: After the elections, US intelligence agencies are told to “back off” investigating the bin Ladens and Saudi royals. There have always been constraints on investigating Saudis. [BBC, 11/6/01]

Spring 2001: Military and government documents are released that seek to legitimize the use of military force in the pursuit of oil. One article advocates presidential subterfuge in the promotion of conflict and "explicitly urge[s] painting over the US's actual reasons for warfare as a necessity for mobilizing public support for a conflict." [Sydney Morning Herald, 12/26/02] A report written for US Secretary of State James Baker argues the need for military intervention to secure the US oil supply. It argues that Iraq needs to be overthrown so that the US can control its oil. [Sunday Herald, 10/5/02]

May 2001: Secretary of State Powell gives $43 million in aid to the Taliban government. [Los Angeles Times, 5/22/01] This follows $113 million given by the US in 2000. [State Dept. Fact Sheet, 12/11/01]

July 10, 2001: A Phoenix FBI agent sends a memorandum warning about Middle Eastern men taking flight lessons. He suspects bin Laden's followers and recommends a national program to check visas of suspicious flight-school students. The memo is sent to two FBI counter-terrorism offices, but no action is taken. [New York Times, 5/21/02] Vice President Cheney says in May 2002 that he opposes releasing this memo to congressional leaders or to the media and public. [CNN, 5/20/02]

July 26, 2001: Attorney General Ashcroft stops flying commercial airlines due to a threat assessment. [CBS, 7/26/01] He later walks out of his office rather than answer questions about this. [AP, 5/16/02]

Aug 2001: Britain gives the US a second warning about an attack. The previous warning was vague. This one specifies imminent multiple airplane hijackings by al-Qaeda. [Sunday Herald, 5/19/02]

Sep 10, 2001: A particularly urgent warning may have been received the night before the attacks, causing some top Pentagon brass to cancel a trip. “Why that same information was not available to the 266 people who died aboard the four hijacked commercial aircraft may become a hot topic on the Hill." [Newsweek, 9/13/01] "A group of top Pentagon officials suddenly canceled travel plans for the next morning, apparently because of security concerns." [Newsweek, 9/24/01, fifth paragraph from end]

There is more and it's disturbing to read. Either our government is incompetent... or 9-11 was allowed to happen. I am not happy with either choice. Both Clinton and Bush should be investigated.

I must say.

I'm bothered that 2 of the hijackers were living in the house of a FBI informant.

Or did I just mishear that bit on the news today?

A bit shocking if you ask me.

now fox news says they are going to talk about Saudi Arabia's influence in 9/11. Of course that isn't till tomorrow morning- I'll be asleep

This is the thing that really bothers me about Bush- and even Clinton to a lesser extent. Why are we still dealing with the Saudis this way?

If you ask me, the Saudis have us by the balls. They may have lost in the 1970's, but I think they may win this one.

This is to all those that think Islam is the problem. Osama bin Laden would have hijacked whatever institution he needed to get the job done.

And I've read these timeline things before. Very frightening sometimes. I must echo Sava's statement that our government is either supremely inept or supremely evil. I don't like either one of those options.

You know, at least by about 100 years from now, something's going to come out that says blah blah did blah blah and (insert way Bush ****ed around here.) Kinda like the Maine.

However, 100 years from now it will also be a historical footnote.

You don't think islam is a problem? Do you think Bin Ladin could just stroll into a country such as Peru or Mexico and recruite suicide bombers.

I'm going to come right out and say it. I'm not some liberal who is acceptcing of all lifestyles and religions. **** religion. And **** Islam. Their religion is ****ed up, and has a tendency to produce suicide bombers.

Islam is a problem. Or more specifically, clerics and leaders who use the religion to fire up hatred. And don't talk about how christian fundamentalists are the same. They aren't the same. You don't think Eric Rudolph is actually religious do you? Although on the flip side Osama Bin Ladin probably isn't religious as well. But his followers are.

I think strict and formal institutions are the problem, and Islam happens to fit those criteria.

I'm not some liberal who is accepting of all lifestyles and religions either. I do think things can be wrong, but I also think that it is inappropriate to judge the whole based on the actions of a part of the whole. In my opinion, that should be a part of the judgment.

Osama could not have gone into any country, no, because not every country or nation has the the proper organizations to be taken advantage of. He used Islam as a tool.

But other religions have been used as well. The Pope used Catholicism, the Buddhists in... err... Taiwan? used Buddhism (if people think I'm wrong on this, don't flame me; correct me, because I know I'm thinking of something here, I just don't remember the specifics), Dubbaya is subtely using Christianity.

I think this is an inherent problem with all religions, that they can be abused in such a way. I see no reason to single out Islam.

Oh, and if you want to be specific for no particular reason and point out the use of suicide bombers, then you're gonna have to blame the Jews, not the Muslims. The first suicide bombers were Jews way back in Israel, in the early part of the twentieth century. They were responding to aggression from Muslims. (and before you say, oh well it was the Muslims, remember that it was you who made the point about suicide bombers, and remember also thast Muslims today respond to American aggression. we have conquered two states filled primarily with Muslims. for whatever reasons, we have)

And no his followers are not religious. The quote I displayed up there shows that.

I would disagree G.W. is using christianity. He is using americans patriotism after 9/11 though. That is another matter.

Although it does relate to this thread. Okay fess up. Who thinks G.W. knew about 9/11 and is using the aftermath of that to drum up support for his war on Iraq?

Okay yah, he's using patriotism as a tool. He's using American culture, as opposed to Osama, who used Muslim culture. Now, obviously, Osama bin Laden has done far worse things with the power, but its a similar tactic.

I don't know if he knew about it, but the fact that he's using it to support his actions now is very clear.

Roosevelt knew that Pearl Harbor was a target and did nothing to prevent it or alleviate the damage done. Once I admired him. Now I despise him.

It may be, and probably is, my imagination, but I had a perception that news about Afghanistan increased noticeably in volume in July and August of 2001 . . .

Didn't most of the Pacific Fleet leave the habour hours before the attack? Happy coincidence or something else?
