Well the White House got some support in an interesting place this week.. former President Bill Clinton on Larry King Live!
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS...sotu/index.html
quote: WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The White House, attacked by critics for a now-retracted line about Iraq seeking uranium from Africa in President Bush's State of the Union address, has gotten some surprising support from former President Bill Clinton.
"I thought the White House did the right thing in just saying 'we probably shouldn't have said that,'" Clinton told CNN's Larry King in a phone interview Tuesday evening.
"You know, everybody makes mistakes when they are president. You can't make as many calls as you have to make without messing up. The thing we ought to be focused on is what is the right thing to do now." |
quote: Former President Clinton also said Tuesday night that at the end of his term, there was "a substantial amount of biological and chemical material unaccounted for " in Iraq.
"At the end of the first Gulf War, we knew what [Saddam] had. We knew what was destroyed in all the inspection processes, and that was a lot. And then we bombed with the British for four days in 1998. We might have gotten it all; we might have gotten half of it; we might have gotten none of it.
"But we didn't know. So I thought it was prudent for the president to go to the U.N. and for the U.N. to say, 'You got to let these inspectors in, and this time if you don't cooperate the penalty could be regime change, not just continued sanctions.'"
Clinton also told King: "People can quarrel with whether we should have more troops in Afghanistan or internationalize Iraq or whatever, but it is incontestable that on the day I left office, there were unaccounted for stocks of biological and chemical weapons." |
Very interesting... it seems that Clinton is the first Democrat to actually say good things about Bush since the scandel broke.

Not screwing on your wife is a good policy. Try explaining to someone how Slick Willy is giving a speech while he was President on the need for nuclear families while getting a hummer in the back room. Yea, nice leader.
There has been no proof yet that the info was bad, the only mistake is the White House trying to blame somebody. They shouldn't have gone after Tenet nor the NSO person. What they should have done is say, we stand by our claim, prove me wrong, the British are still standing by it. That was their mistake. Might I add, everybody and their cousin thought and most still think Saddam has WMD, the end of the campaign is what, something like 10 weeks old, where our soldiers most of the time is protecting their asses and can't do massive searches of the country yet.
I have always said we went to Iraq to give us a presence in the ME, look what has already happened since we have been there. Do you guys really think the ME peace process would be as far as it is if we haven't gone to Iraq, or the new light shown on Iran with nuclear weapons(which has everybody asking questions) and now Iran is saying they do have Al queda terrorists in custody, (one believed to be the #2 guys) and Syria backing off of terrorist support.
C'mon Mtg, I can understand Sava trying to put a spin on this but do you really believe any of this would have come out with Gore in the seat, not likely, we would find about the next terrorist hit when it would make NYC glow in the dark.
