I think they got off lightly. A few round of gunfire to the chest and head is much better than what would have happened to them if they were captured alive. You did them a favour.

With the introduction of French troops, the Iraqi people would have seen the true international flavour of their liberation. They then would have convinced Udai and Qusay to negotiate a nice little retirement on the French Med. and peace would reign.

(Just kidding.)

Are you really this ****ing stupid? Gee, a lone house in the desert, nothing within 20 miles, flat as a pancake, perfect visibility everywhere for miles... Yes, you see, it wasn't in Mosul, it was in a dry lake bed in the desert with nothing else around, so we knew that there were only four people there, and nobody else in the neighborhood, and we could even cater a picnic there while we waited...

Well, you're trying to say we should have killed the two because they might have caused people to shoot at US soldiers (among other reasons), and I'm saying "Why shouldn't they do that?"

The thread author probably considers American soldiers to be dehumanized playthings that should die, since we invaded a country wtihout Kofi leading the charge. And sees Udai and such as sympathetic.

No, I'm saying those two little ****suckers had the choice to surrender or die - we're not obligated to **** around with them, or anyone else. And if Iraqis want to end up dead taking potshots at us, then they can do that too.

As far as why they should or shouldn't, most of 'em are smart enough to figure they have better things to do with their lives. It's not like they had any say in running their country in the first place, and not like we're going to annex the place and put another star on the flag, so most Iraqis with some measure of brains will get on with their lives.

Put an end to popups!

I wouldn't like to see these guys turned into some sort of heros who valiantly resisted the infidels for 2 months. Who would come to their rescue? Maybe some of those people who have been ambushing soldiers? It's possible they would have slipped away.

Soldiers are not police they are soldiers and they are trained to go in and eliminate the problem.

Three things.

1) I can't believe the question has to be asked.
2) I can't believe it warranted any discussion.
3) Good riddance to murdering bastards.

Slow,

1) No, it doesn't have to be asked. The answer is fairly self-evident.
2) Not everyone sees it as self evident.
3) As much as I want to disagree with you on every possible issue, I can't quite disagree with you there.

The way the battle was described on TV news:

Troops got the tip and surrounded the building: a long gun battle started: according to sources 4 US soldiers were wounded. After the long battle, it was decided to attack the building with missiles. 10 TOW were launched against the Mansion, which is what is believed to have killed the 3 adults in the House. Soldiers then went into the house, where they met resistance: they fired at the person shooting at them and killed him, the him being Qusay's 14 year old son (it might have been Uday's).

My guess is then that there were more than 2 AK's in the house.

With the only choices being attack or siege, attack is the clear answer . Why give any remaining Saddam loyalists a focal point ? Why stand around impotently because they refuse to come out?

If they had disarmed and come out I would have hoped for their execution after proper trials--However I am relieved that there will be no such trial to serve as another rallying point for any Saddam loyalists-- It was quick and now its over.
